"Umm?" Angie asked, still asleep, her arms grasping him around his waist as he sighed and kissed her forehead. Rollie tried to fall back asleep then, for they had a busy day ahead and in little more than 2 hours, as he glanced at the clock on the bedstand, the alarm would ring.
He and Angie had been together in his loft now for over 2 months since the Avila trip. There hadn’t been a day that had gone by since that he wasn’t thankful for the miracle that had happened to them there and the reward of their relationship now kindled into this new and certainly a lot more gratifying existence. The working together was the same and there were still arguments over certain gags and production schemes but that was the challenge. They weren’t an extremely emotional and touchy couple when working- that remained as before but the coming home together, the wondrous lovemaking and the commitment that had formed was so new and beyond anything he could ever have imagined.
There was barely a nod off before the alarm sounded and almost in unison, a knock on the door. Rollie got up, groggy as Angie rolled over, moaning that the night had been so short. She was feeling so sluggish and wasted. She heard Rollie talking to someone downstairs and though the voice sounded familiar, she closed her eyes again thinking she could get 5 more minutes of sleep. The voice got closer, female and a little emotional, she thought as she opened her eyes again. She definitely wasn’t going to get anymore sleep.
"So, what blonde bimbo is it this time, Tyler?" asked the female voice, with a definite Latino accent and Angie frowned and looked up from the bed. Elena Serrano, with hands on her hips stared down at her and took a double take. Rollie looked on, sheepishly from behind her.
"Well, hey there, Special Agent Serrano," Angie said, up on one elbow as the covers slid from her shoulder, revealing her nakedness.
"I…I guess I beg your pardon," Elena said, shaking her head and closing and reopening her eyes.
"No problem," Angie said, sitting up, pulling the covers up around her chest, "this has been happening a lot since we got back from Avila."
Elena looked at Rollie, who stood looking just a little embarrassed, much to Angie’s chagrin.
"Hey, Elena, come on down and I’ll fix you a nice cup of tea, eh?" Rollie told her, tugging on her elbow.
Agent Serrano nodded without speaking, as Angie waved at her. As she disappeared down the stairs, Angie got up, thinking to herself, God- another one that had the hots for Rollie!
Dressed, Angie met Rollie and Elena downstairs. Elena had regained her hard-line composure and was grilling Rollie about the Avila trip and the death of Loubar. Angie shuddered, just wanting the whole thing to die down like Loubar. There had been a parade of international police and agencies that wanted to hear how Loubar died and the particulars. There had apparently, been many unfinished projects that Loubar had started and no one knew what booby traps were still out there with Loubar’s calling card on them not yet exploded.
"You poor thing," Elena said to Angie as she took the offered cup of tea from Rollie who grinned at her. She sat beside him on a stool with Elena sitting across the table from them, "I mean, what he did to you and then the kidnapping and the fall!"
"I’d like to try and put it behind me," Angie told her, recalling Loubar’s deception and the later kidnapping. Rollie was stroking her back and she smiled at him and then looked to Elena who had not missed his touch and closeness to Angie.
"Well, of course," Elena said, clearing her throat, "it’s just that there is a small problem that I need some help with…"
"Aw, not you too," Angie said, getting up from the table and moving to the sink to remove her tea bag from her cup.
"Yes, well I am afraid we must get something from you, Angie." Elena said, her voice suddenly soft and delicate.
"He’s dead," Angie said, flatly, "What more do you want?"
"Er, well- his DNA," Elena replied, still in a delicate voice as she looked to Rollie and then to Angie.
"This place has been swept clean and everything in Avila," Rollie said as Angie looked at Elena confused. The FBI agent was still looking at her, her eyes trying to tell her Angie something that she just wasn’t getting.
"No, there is still a sample," Elena told him, and then in a serious tone added, "Mira Sanchez was there when they took it from you, Angie."
"What, from me, what are you talking about?" Angie started to ask, her eyes widening but suddenly, she realized what Elena was talking about. The PERK kit done at the neighborhood clinic. Of course, they had taken hair, and specimens from her after the rape.
Rollie looked clueless for she had never really talked to him about the clinic visit, or Mira’s help there.
"Ange, the clinic?"
"Yeah, well- I went there after Loubar’s, you know- the rape…" Angie said, sitting back down as he touched her arm.
"We need your permission to take a look at the specimens. I assume that they gave you the next day pill," Elena said, going forward as she saw the effect it was having on Rollie.
"Yes, Agent Serrano, I took the pill. And yes, you can look at the specimens all you want. But why?" Angie asked her, her eyes moistening as Rollie tensed beside her.
"We want to compare the DNA and semen against the body they recovered in Avila," Elena told her, stoically. Even though Rollie identified Loubar at the scene, there were some problems at the morgue at Interpol. Needless to say, we just want to confirm."
"For bloody sake," Rollie said, his anger apparent, "I saw his body with my own eyes."
"Yes, and yet- Victor Loubar has died at least three times in front of you, Rollie and has come back each time like a phoenix rising from his ashes," Elena replied.
Rollie said nothing then as Angie’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t live in this world if that match didn’t occur. She would not be victimized again by Loubar. He was dead- Rollie had seen him.
"Well, I’ll be off now," Elena told them, standing up and motioning for Rollie to follow her. Angie was still stunned, hugging her tea cup as Rollie walked Elena to the door. She barely noticed Elena Serrano’s closeness to Rollie at the loft door and the kiss that the Agent gave him as she walked out.
Rollie came back to her, her eyes meeting his in fear, "What? Oh, don’t worry about that bit at the door, Ange. She has some flames still there for me, but I told her about us."
"Rollie, I don’t care about her hormones- I care about what she didn’t say to us here in this room," Angie told him, standing up from her stool.
"Yeah- that bothered me too, maybe we should give Mira a little ring, okay?" he told her, putting his finger under her chin as he smiled.
"good idea, Rol," Angie replied, unconvinced. Rollie kissed her then and she smelled the heavy scent of musk that Elena wore on him and wrinkled her nose, "ew, that stuff is nauseating, Rol."
"What?" and he sniffed at his collar and shrugged his shoulders.
By the time they were dressed and ready to leave for the set, Mira had returned Rollie’s call. Angie sat next to him, biting her one nail that was not already chewed off in nervousness. By the time he finished, he let out a deep exhale and looked back at her with that look that she knew so well.
"What?"
"Loubar’s body- they had done preliminary work-up at the morgue and then, somehow, it got misplaced and then, it disappeared."
"No!" Angie shouted and stood up, her arms crossed in front of her, "this can’t be happening! Not again, Rollie this can’t happen again!"
"It’s okay," he told her, pulling her into his chest and holding her tightly, "I will make sure you will get apprised of everything once Elena has checked the specimens and- what say we get you out of here?"
"What?" she asked him, startled, looking up, "what did Mira say to you?"
"Nothing, well- just that she had her suspicions that Loubar…"
"That Loubar what? Isn’t dead? Isn’t that what she told you, Rollie?" Angie had pulled away from him, accusing him ,in a way of not telling her the truth.
He shook his head. He would just tell her so that she would be prepared. He knew Angie would find out soon enough.
"Yeah, that’s exactly what she suspects."
