Rollie Tyler looked in the mirror and adjusted his bowtie in frustration.
"Let me."
He turned to Angie who was on the bottom step and whistled appreciatively. She was clad in the blue velvet dress, with matching bolero jacket, that he'd bought her for Christmas.
"Thank you...Mr. Handsome." She smiled as she reached to fix the tie.
"You sure you're up to going?"
"I'm fine Rol."
"You weren't feeling so good earlier."
"That nap I took did wonders." She finished working on his tie and kissed him. "Besides, Frank and Sarah will be disappointed if we don't show up."
He wrapped his arms around her.
"I love you so much sweetie and I look forward to bringing in the new year with you."
"Mmmm, me too Rol. I'll get my coat and we can go."
They pulled up in front of the Gatti's home and Rollie turned to her.
"Are you sure about this Ange, we can go home...have a quiet celebration in bed."
"Sounds good, but you're too late." She grinned waving to Frank in the doorway.
Rollie sighed and shut the engine off. They hurried to the warm house.
"Happy not quite new year."The cop grinned, taking their coats and hanging them in the hall closet.
"Right back at ya mate!" Rollie clasped his hand.
"Angie, what a beautiful dress!" Sarah hugged her.
"My husband has great taste." The blond smiled at the Aussie.
"Who else is coming to this shindig?" Rollie asked.
"Mira, the Captain, a few other cops and some of Sarah's co-workers."
"Would you like something to drink? Beer? Champagne? ----"
"Beer's fine. Ange?"
"Just water."
"You okay?" Sarah asked concerned.
"Yeah.'
"She wasn't feeling too well this afternoon." Rollie added.
"I'm fine now."
"If you start to feel ill, you're more than welcome to use our room to rest a bit." Sarah patted her hand.
"Thanks, I appreciate that. Where are the girls?"
"At my mom's." Sarah answered.
"Marylyn promised they could stay up 'til midnight." Frank added with a sigh.
The couple chuckled as the doorbell rang.
"Any big plans for next year?" Sarah asked as Frank answered the door.
"As far as we know, just the usual." Rollie replied smiling at Angie.
Rollie exited the kitchen and looked for his wife.
It was 11:57 and he wanted to be holding her when the clock struck midnight.
He headed down the hallway, thinking she may have laid down and knocked softly on the door.
"Come in." He heard her call.
"You okay? We can go home." He said closing the door behind him and walking over to where she sat on the bed.
"After midnight." She nodded tiredly.
"Less than a minute." He smiled holding her.
They soon heard the ten second countdown and joined in quietly.
They kissed deeply as the other guests blew horns and cheered.
"Happy New Year sweetie." He whispered.
"Happy New Year to you too. Rol.....Remember when Sarah asked if there were any big plans for the new year?"
He nodded and looked at her.
"There is something....we're gonna have a baby, Rol."
"You're....you're pregnant?" He asked stunned.
She nodded and smiled.
Rollie hugged her as tears streamed down his cheeks.
"I love you." He said softly, then pulled back and touched her stomach. "I love you too my little joey."
Angie laughed as her own tears flowed.
They hugged again.
"This will be the best new year ever!" He said as Auld Lang Syne
resounded through the house.
