Stus map wasnt making sense as he dropped it, making a right turn onto an interstate ramp and flooring it. He kept shaking his head in disbelief and saying over and over, out loud; "Oh boy .oh boy!"
He would find that Hilton Motel near the airport even without the map. He was flying by the seat of his pants anyway.
Rollie stood in the shower, hot water drizzling over him as he continued to shiver. Angie sat, on top of the toilet seat cover almost forlornly," watching as her husband seemed less than amicable to her at the moment. She was looking down at the bruising that was beginning to form over each of her forearms near her wrists. What had happened to them? What had happened between Rollie and her?
"Rollie?" she asked, her voice shaky.
"I dont know .I dont know what happened, Angie. It was like you were someone else, okay?" he answered, his voice on edge.
"Was I hurting you, is this why you held me down?" she asked.
Rollie turned to look at her, through the glass of the shower, saw the way she was looking at her arms and shook his head;
"No, you werent hurting me "
"Then what?"
He turned back away from the glass and toward the back of the shower. He had put his arms up, hands pressed firmly against the tiles, the water running down his back and side. He bent his head down, not wanting to tell her. She obviously had no memory of what had happened.
"Rollie?"
Angie had pulled the glass door open, standing only a foot from him as he continued to face the wall of the shower. He felt her touch, on his shoulder and he jumped slightly. She could see the twitch of his shoulder blade and well-defined muscle as he moved.
"Rollie!"
"What! You want to hear it, all right, here it is! I was hurting you, okay? I was enjoying it!"
Angies face crumpled as he had turned to face her and shout his reply back to her. He was immediately sorry and she backed away, leaving the bathroom at once.
"Bloody friggin hell!" he said out loud and moaned slightly as he touched the bite mark. It just wouldnt get warm.
When he finally came out, a towel wrapped around his waist, he found her gone from their room. He quickly went into the adjoining room, shuddering as he found her wrapped up with Aidan curled in her arms.
Rollie looked at his family, his life and wondered what in the world they had stumbled into now. Now, when they were just getting over so much!
"Angie " he whispered.
"No please just leave me alone!" she responded, her voice also in whisper.
"Look, there has to be an explanation for all of this. You know I would never harm you and I know you wouldnt do this to me," Rollie pleaded, pointing to his shoulder in the near darkness. He bent down and then lay on his side in front of her and Aidan. Aidan continued to sleep deeply as Angie clutched him to her protectively.
"I know " Angie replied, tears forming in her eyes as she kissed Aidans curly head.
"Oh sweetie, look, lets move. Lets get another room, we can stay in town where Luce is staying. Maybe its the area were in, eh?" Rollie asked her, his arm stretching across and touching her shoulder slightly as he moved in closer.
"I dont want my baby touched by any of this!" she replied in a warning, her whisper taking on a harsh determination.
"Agreed! Come on, we can pack in the morning and get a new room in Richmond. I'll tell Mrs. Gallagher the change of plans."
"Rollie?"
"Yes?"
"Did you, did we make love, I mean, did we have sex, you know .uh, all the way?" Angie asked, biting her lip, her memory blank.
Rollies eyes closed, his sigh told her everything as she moved away from him.
"Angie please- it was like I couldnt stop. You know me, I would never and then you were telling me things, well- not you the voice was so strange and it was like I was there but something else was too!"
"Im scared it will happen again, do you understand?"
"Yes I understand "
"I dont know what to do!" Angie cried out, her whisper dissolving into a sob as Aidan stirred and she quickly put her hand over her mouth as Rollie pulled Aidan over to him. Aidan comfortably rolled into his fathers arms without opening his eyes and murmured some soft babyish syllables before resuming a deeper sleep.
"I love you, Angela "
"Oh Rollie, I love you too, its all so ."
There was a hard knock on the door, followed by an impatient drum rolling sound as Rollie cursed under his breath and Angie quickly sprang up behind Rollie as he headed into their room. They shut the door to Aidans adjoining room, hoping he would not wake up.
Rollie grabbed his robe, throwing it on as he dropped his towel and Angie tied her robe tighter around her. Grabbing the door, Rollie peered through the chain length gape as he opened it.
"Mr. Tyler! I developed them! You wont believe your eyes!"
The moon was hiding behind thick cloud cover in the skies over Eventyn. A curl of smoke wavered through the fog that had begun to hug the tobacco and wheat fields near the house. A lone figure strolled along the threshing path, the curl of smoke releasing from his lungs ever so often in the quiet night, devoid of animal or insect sounds that night.
"What are you up to, old girl?" he asked, puzzled as he shook his head, seeing the red haze start to surround the edge of protruding moon from its thick, white covers.
Lucinda Scott had enjoyed a wonderful meal with John Grant at a wonderful restaurant called the Frog and the Redneck, down in the Shockoe Slip in old Richmond. The streets were still cobblestoned, the slips still possessing wooden latches from the 18th century for boats as they docked along the riverfront. She walked along the slip with John, talking about all sorts of things, her career, her past life with Rick and Rollie Tyler. But Marvin Vanduran was not a subject she spoke of that night as she hugged herself, her teeth chattering slightly.
"Here, youre cold, take my jacket," John Grant told her as he pulled it off and slipped it over her shoulders with ease.
"Thanks," she said, smiling up at him and wondering, what would it be like to kiss this man?
"I think we need to get to the hotel. We have a full shoot tomorrow. I believe we have a ball to attend tomorrow, Miss OBralley!" he told her, in character by the end of the sentence.
"Yes, yes we do, Mister Hunter Eventyn," Lucinda responded, giggling slightly. She felt light on her feet, full of life that night. Bother the fact that John Grant was engaged! For that matter, that she was engaged!
"Mr. Tyler, oh God, you have to see these!" Stu remarked, his hands trembling as he entered the room. It had not even registered that both Rollie and Angie were in robes, looking rather pale.
Rollie turned on the main lamp at the table in the corner of the room and went to fumbling around, as if he was looking for something.
Without a word, Angie produced his glasses and handed them to him. Pulling them down on his nose, he took the photos and sat down, his face showing surprise and illumination.
"What?" Angie asked, coming to his side and peering down at the five photos he had laid out on the circular table in front of him.
"Aidan said he saw a man! Here he is! And this one, and this one and then her look at that!" Rollie almost shouted, his finger tapping on the final photo.
Angie looked down, blinking slightly as she opened her mouth in amazement. Inside the halo of light, the outline of human like figures had been detected. Light emanated through them as well but the shape and figures were there and the faces !
Thats the woman, that woman from Eventyn!" Rollie exclaimed, looking up at Stu who was grinning from ear to ear and nodding his head.
"Oh no!" Angie said, putting a hand to her forehead, "This is Hunter Eventyn- the original one!"
Rollie looked down at the first picture, the one that displayed the man he had also seen in portrait at Eventyn.
"Yeah, yeah and who is this? And this?" Stu asked, pointing to the other men.
"I dont know but I bet there is someone who does!" Rollie replied, pulling his glasses off and looking up at Angie.
"And youre going to see him tomorrow, Stu!" Angie told her computer friend from California, "and get some answers from him. I have a feeling hes known about these guys haunting that hill for some time!"
Stu shrugged his shoulders and then rolled his eyes; "I guess my movie days are over before they even got started "
"No, dont fret over that. We can take care of Gary for you, dont worry. Wouldnt want to ruin a budding career in technical assistance !" Rollie told him, slapping him on the back.
"I dont get it, what looked like a small orb of light to us today, shows up like a full figure with your digital camera?" Angie asked, shaking her head as she held up the picture of what looked like Hunter Eventyn.
"Well, that could be the trifield meter affect or maybe it picked up the flux density emitted from their electromagnetic fields that were generated. The camera can pick up EMG tracings!" Stu replied, excitedly.
"We need answers," Rollie told Stu with determination as he led Stu back to the door.
"You got it! I cant wait to talk to that guy in the morning!" Stu replied, as he gathered up the photos and started to leave.
"Thanks Stu!" Angie said, in bidding her farewell to him. She looked even more pale than before he had entered the room.
Once alone, Rollie and Angie looked at each other, a second passing, more
Angie felt Rollies arms close around her and she held on tightly. There was no one in the room except them, only them.
"Im sorry " she said, her face buried in his chest.
"Im sorry too," she heard him say, as he swayed slightly from side to side, his fingers softly stroking her right, bruised forearm. He kissed the top of her head gently as she let the tears come.
Hunter Eventyn, the fourth, finally took to his bed. The walk in the cool nights air along the fields had finally tired him out. Of course, the drag of his own tobacco in his cigar didnt hurt as he finally laid it to rest, stubbing it out in the large ashtray on his bedstand. He took a last swallow of his medicine- grinning as he chuckled at the Southern Comfort bottle resting near him within his reach.
No, he told himself, she wasnt coming tonight. She was up to something he knew that. But she wouldnt be bothering him tonight! The patriarch of Eventyn Plantation closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly.
Drifting into sleep, he mumbled and snored off and on the one intelligible word was actually her name . "Siobhan ."
