Chapter 8 Learning About Family

Both Mira and Angie where anxious to get back to their room so they could talk about all the events of the evening. They had learnt so much and yet so little.

Angie: I can't believe it Selena she's my full sister.

Mira: How do you know for sure.

Angie: The dimple on her chin like mine it's the same as my father's. And then there is her age my mother must have been pregnant for her before my father and I left.

Mira: She seemed pretty attached to Morales.

Angie: I'm some kinda glad you were holding my back when Selena hugged Morales. I thought I was going to die.

Mira: It really threw me for a loop too.

Angie: I just don't understand it!

Mira: Yeah! It was a bit weird.

Angie: She seems like such a nice kid. I can't understand why my mother would allow herself and Selena to be so close to that old bastard!

Mira: I'd really like the answer to that one myself. But I guess we are going to have to wait a bit longer.

Looking up at the cross between the beds Angie couldn't help the sudden urge she had to say. "God please grant me the patience."

The next morning Sister Claire had some business to do so she asked Mira and Angie if they wouldn't mind going on the visit to Senora Morales themselves.

Mira: I'm sure after being there twice that we could probably find our way no problem.

Lucas stood watching as the green mini van pulled out of the drive. He had hoped to spend more time with Sister Maria (Mira).

Angie: I think someone is getting pretty attached.

"I know he's just so cute." Replied Mira as waved good bye to the handsome little guy.

Angie: I guess you found a man, in that get up after all. Smiling in a teasing way.

It felt good to have the drive to themselves it was getting very overwhelming not to talk about things as they pleased outside of their room. As they chatted they both agreed it must be awful for Angie's mother and sister to have to live under such surveillance.

The guard at the first gate met them with a glare and waved them to a stop. He then walked around the van and then to Angie on the driver side. As she rolled down the window the guard took along look around the inside. He them asked them to wait.

Looking concerned Mira said. " I thought we were invited?"

"So did I." Replied Angie in a disgusted tone of voice.

Mira: Here he comes.

The guard came back quite flustered as he apologized for the inconvenience. It seemed with all the commotion of the Quinces that Senora Morales forgot to tell him that they had been invited.

Apologizing once more he sent them on their way. Much to their relief. When they arrived at the mansion they got a friendlier greeting from Selena who had a huge smile on her face.

Angie: She is certainly happy to see us.

Mira: That big smile is certainly familiar.

Angie couldn't help throwing a quick don't rub it in glare at Mira as they got out of the van to meet the young lady.

Selena: Hello, My mother is waiting for us in her garden.

As they made their way to the garden Angie thought she would be polite by commenting on how nice of a day it was.

Selena: My mother must have figured the same thing as she decided to have lunch in her garden.

Mira and Angie both eyed the bodyguard standing by the rose covered gazebo as they got closer to the garden. Inside Angie's mother was waiting with a delicious looking lunch.

Angie's Mother: Hello, I'm so glad you could come. I'm sorry for the mix up at the gate.

Angie: You certainly are well protected.

Angie's Mother: I guess you can say that.

Mira gave Angie a warning glance as she changed the subject.

" You certainly have a lot of beautiful flowers you can see they are well kept."

Selena: Yeah, Just like us.

Angie's Mother: Selena that’s enough…..Our guests don't need to hear your complaints.

Mira: Your daughter reminds me of someone I know quite well.

Angie: That can't be all that bad.

Angie's mother: Yes but one of these days Selena is going to get herself in a situation that not going to be so easy to get out of.

Selena: Oh! Mother!

Angie watched the interaction between her mother and sister with awe. She couldn't help noticing how her mother tried to keep Selena in line but also seemed so very proud her at the same time.

Mira: So did you enjoy yourself at your quinces?

Selena: Yes it was the most interesting that has happened here in a long time it gets pretty boring around here.

Angie's: So what else would you find interesting?

Selena: I would love to go to school in the states. Did you go to a special school to learn about computers?

Angie: Yes I went to the University of New York.

Selena: Wow you went to N.Y.U. and became a nun at the same time. That’s awesome.

Angie: I could teach you some tricks if you like.

Selena: I got a computer as gift last night would you like to see it.

Angie couldn't help herself when she quickly answered "Yes" Selena vivacity was very endearing making it hard to say no.

Angie's Mother: We did ask our guests for lunch there kiddo!

Selena: I know, so lets eat.

The three adults could help laughing at Selena's enthusiasm before they enjoyed a scrumptious lunch while looking out over the ocean.
