Note: This is an AU-story, although only one thing
is changed: there is no RS. I wanted to set the story during or after the
second season and due to the nature of the story it had to be set at the
time around Christmas. But I didn’t want to deal with RS and its complications/implications,
so I just didn’t let it happen. (Perhaps the people who hired Loubar found
someone else, or Loubar go the flu, whatever.)
Turning Darkness into Light
Prologue
“Would you be overly disappointed if you celebrated Christmas without snow this year?”
Angie looked up, a bit startled since Rollie had thrown her out of her concentration. She was finishing the last touches on “Red Storm,” a movie they were going to wrap within two days – if everything went okay.
“Why, are you trying to escape the harsh New York City winters and invite me to a trip to Florida?” she joked.
“Not Florida, but Europe. Ireland to be exact,” Rollie told her.
Angie stared at him with a raised eyebrow. “Although I don’t know that much about Ireland and its climate, what I DO know is that December is not the best time to go there for vacation.”
“Well, it’s not exactly for vacation ….” Rollie stared. Angie gave a sigh, the one “I-knew-that-would’ve-been-too-good-to-be-true,”
“ - But vacation is included, now and then later,” Rollie finished.
“Okay, would you be so kind as to let me in on what exactly is in your mind?” Angie asked him, a bit exasperated.
“We’ve been offered another movie, one that is shot in Ireland, beginning next April. After we finished the movie, we can add a nice vacation there – and then the weather should be better.“ Rollie added the last with a grin.
“And why are we going to Ireland over Christmas?” Angie asked.
“Does the name ‘Newgrange’ ring a bell for you?” Rollie asked a counter question.
For a moment, Angie let her eyes stare into nothingness as she tried to remember that name. “Isn’t it some kind of burial site? I think Kim mentioned it while we were in London shooting ‘Avalon’. She has been in Ireland and was really impressed by the site.”
“You are right, Newgrange is an old burial tomb, over 5000 years old. The movie is about the people of that time, how they lived and how they built the monument. And as to why we’ve got to be there at Christmas, during the winter solstice, between the nineteenth thru the 23rd of December, the rising sun illuminates the chamber for about 15 minutes. This will be displayed in the movie, of course, so it is best if we see it with our own eyes. That is, if we chose to make the movie.” The last was a question directed to Angie.
“I’d love to make the movie, no Horror-Splatter-movie for a change. And there could be worse places to do a movie,” Angie closed with a grin.
“I’d say so. I always wanted to go to Ireland, some relations of my Mom came from the ‘Emerald Island’,” Rollie said.
“When do we have to go?” Angie asked.
“As you can imagine, those special tours on the 19th thru the 23rd of
December are booked-up quite some time beforehand. But since the movie
is shot with the approval and the cooperation of the Dúchas, the
Heritage Service, the producers have managed to get us a place at the tour
on the 21st, so we should arrive in Ireland on the 19th or 20th.”
