Xmas Story

"Hey Angie. I'm home." Rollie called into the building, stepping out of the FX van. He just got back from the set of the latest movie they had been working on. It was a Christmas/ action piece. Year and a half old Emily had a slight cold that week and Angie hadn't been feeling too good either so they both had stayed home from the set that day.

"Hey Rollie." Angie came out of the kitchen.

"How are you feeling?" Rollie asked giving her a kiss as they sat down on the couch together.

"Better." Angie replied smiling. Boy, was he gonna get a Christmas gift this year when he found out why she wasn't feeling good. Now if she could just stay quiet for another week.

"Good. And how's Emily?"

"She's feeling better today. Hand painted most of the day. And helped me wrap some Christmas gifts." Angie told him. "We gotta get a tree still you know."

"Yeah. I was thinking we could do that tonight? After supper?" Rollie suggested to his wife.

"Sounds good to me." Angie replied, head resting on Rollie's shoulder. "Emily's so excited about Christmas this year."

"Well, so am I." Rollie told his wife.

"This'll be our first Christmas together as a family and without Victor Loubar in our lives." Angie said.

"And it'll be the best ever." Rollie replied, giving her a kiss on the top of her head. It had been ten months since Loubar took Angie and Emily, and he was killed.

"Daddy!" Rollie looked up to see Emily running over to the couch from the stairs.

"Hey, Emily, sweetie." Rollie said picking the little girl up I his arms, sitting her on his lap. "You ready for Christmas?"

"Yep!" The girl replied smiling and nodding her head.

"I'm gonna start dinner." Angie said getting up from the couch.

"So, you gonna tell your daddy what he got for Christmas?" Rollie asked Emily, as Angie started to walk away.

"Emily why don't you come with me." Angie said, turning around and walking back to the couch, picking up the girl. "Nice try, Mister Tyler."

The week had passed busily. The movie Tyler FX had been working on wrapped up the day before Christmas eve, and the next movie wouldn't be started for two more weeks.

"Daddy! Mommy!" A little voice came from the nursery, waking Rollie and Angie up.

"Go see what's wrong?" Angie told her husband, poking him in the ribs with her elbow.

"Okay. Okay." Rollie said, eyes still closed, not budging.

"Rollie. You going?" Angie asked five minutes later, starting to hear Rollie snoring. "Rollie!"

"Yeah. I'm going." Rollie replied, opening his eyes wide and sitting up.

"Hey, Sweetie." Rollie said, going into Emily's room and turning the light on seeing the girl standing up in the crib. "What's wrong?"

"Santa!" She told him smiling. Santa was her way of saying Christmas, a word that was too big for her yet.

"It is, isn't it." Rollie said, waking up more fully. "You ready to open your gifts?"

"Yes!" She squealed, smiling, as Rollie picked her out of the crib and carried her into the other room.

"Angie, you know what today is?" Rollie asked sitting Emily down on the bed where Angie had fallen back to sleep.

"Huh?" Angie mumbled, waking up again.

"Today's Christmas." Rollie told her, walking over to turn the light on.

"Rollie!" Angie shouted as the light was turned on and she covered her eyes with her pillow.

"Sorry." Rollie said smiling. "So you gonna get up now?"

"Why?" Angie asked from under the pillow.

"Because it's Christmas." Rollie told her again picking the pillow off her face.

"I don't care if the world coming to an end. I want to go back to sleep. It's too early." Angie said, rolling over on her side, surprised to see Emily laying right next to her.

"Santa!" Emily started shouting.

"Oh, fine. I'm up." Angie said sitting up in the bed.

"Good. Now let's go open some presents." Rollie said picking his daughter up again.

"I'll be right down." Angie said putting her robe on and heading over to the bathroom.

"So, what am I getting for Christmas?" Rollie asked Emily, sitting down on the couch just a few feet away from the tree as they waited for Angie. He knew she knew what he got and had been trying to get it out of her all week with no luck. Angie was always showing up. It didn't matter too much now since they were about to open the gifts but he still wanted to try to get it out of the girl.

"Baby." Emily replied, sitting on his lap.

"What?" Rollie asked, not too sure what to make of that.

"Baby." She repeated.

"Baby." Rollie repeated, seeing Angie staring at the end of the stairs.

"What does she mean about a baby?" Rollie asked his wife.

"What did you ask her Rollie?" Angie asked, walking over to the couch.

"Okay so I asked her what I was getting." Rollie confessed as Emily slid off his lap and went over to the tree. "But she didn't tell me anything. Just said 'baby'.

"Oh. Well she's right." Angie said sitting down on the couch next to him, smiling.

"What do you mean she's right? You mean she's right that I'm getting a baby?" Rollie asked, confused. "Wait. Are you.......?"

"Yep. I'm pregnant." Angie told him, grinning from ear to ear, enjoying his shock. "I found out a couple weeks ago. Decided to wait and tell you for Christmas. I think that'll be the last time I tell Emily anything I want kept secret from you."

"Pregnant." Rollie repeated, not really listening to his wife.

"Rollie? You okay?" Angie asked, chuckling slightly. "Rollie?!"

"What? Oh I'm fine." Rollie told her.

"You sure?" Angie asked him again, covering one of his hands for one of hers.

"Yeah. Just shocked. I wasn't expecting that this year. Maybe a sweater. But not this for Christmas." Rollie told her, smiling at her, giving her a kiss.

"Teddy!" Emily yelled, holding up a brown stuffed bear. Angie and Rollie broke apart and looked over at the tree where Emily was sitting on the floor with ripped wrapping paper surrounding her. Laughing Angie and Rollie got up and joined their daughter opening presents. It was their best Christmas ever.
