"Hey Ange, before you leave can I ask you something?" Rollie asked, a bit nervously, seeing Angie putting her coat on, ready to leave for the night.
"Sure, Rol. What is it?" Angie asked, looking at the taller man who was walking towards her. He stopped a few feet away, standing directly in front of her, hands in his jean pockets. "Something wrong Rollie? You look nervous?"
"Um.... Well.... I was just wondering if you'd like to go out to eat tomorrow night or something?" Rollie asked, his voice cracking a bit with nervousness.
"Of course Rollie. What's to be nervous about that? We went out to eat together plenty of times before." Angie pointed out a bit confused.
"That's not what I meant. I mean as... like a date date..... not just as friends." Rollie told her, stumbling a bit on the words. "If you want to change your mind, that's all right. Um.... I'd understand."
Angie stood dumbfounded for a few seconds. She couldn't believe her ears. Rollie Tyler had actually decided to finally ask her out. She never thought it would happen. She hoped it would but didn't think it would. "Oh no, Rollie. I haven't changed my mind. I would love to go out with you... on a date date." She said, then added, knowing what Rollie was about to ask next, "I'm sure Rollie."
"All right. Good. Pick you up at eight?." Rollie said smiling as Angie turned to leave.
"Sure. Good night Rollie." Angie replied, butterflies already in her stomach.
"Good night, sweetie." Rollie called back, as she left the loft and he sat down before he felt like fainting.
The next day went by slowly for Angie and Rollie. The young blonde had came into work in the morning to get some work done and she left in the afternoon to get ready for Rollie's and hers first date. She was so nervous, at first she couldn't find her keys. Then she started looking for the dress she wanted to wear, forgetting she had already laid it out on her bed that morning. She nearly forgot her shoes, till she tripped over them.
Rollie was having as about as much luck getting ready as Angie was. Rollie couldn't find anything. And his tie didn't want to obey, so finally after wasting fifteen minutes he threw the tie in the waste basket and changed into a shirt he didn't need a tie with but looked fancy enough. He spent ten minutes looking for his keys only to find they were in his hand the whole time. Finally he got out of the loft and over to Angie's apartment without anymore trouble.
If Rollie didn't faint the night before when he was asking Angie out on the date, he nearly fainted when he saw her. She was wearing a short sleeve, bright blue dress, that went down to about a inch or two above her knees, with a not too low, V-neck. It had a free flowing shirt, that swiveled with her when she turned.
The first few minutes were a bit uncomfortable and silent for both the FX experts. The silence was broken when Angie finally asked Rollie where he was taking her. He replied by saying a nice club unless she wanted to go somewhere else. She assured him the club was just fine.
When they got to the club Rollie picked, it was crowded but not too loud. They got a table and ordered some drinks. Things were still a bit nervous between the two, but they were talking at least. After about thirty minutes, Rollie's and Angie's worst nightmare, at least to happen that night, turned up. Dani Van Der Glasse. Rollie's model-actress girlfriend.
"Rollie! Imagine running into you here! It's so good to see you again!" Dani exclaimed, coming up to the two FX experts table, acting as if Angie wasn't even there.
"Oh, hi, Dani." Rollie replied, wishing Dani to go away as she bent down and kissed him on the lips. They had broken up a year ago, but every time she saw Rollie, she would automatically start thinking she and Rollie were a couple again.
Angie sat there, even more uncomfortable than she had already felt that night. She sat, hands in lap, head bent down. Finally, she got up and excused herself to the lady's room, not being able to take Dani crawling all over Rollie.
When Angie got back to the table, Dani was gone but so was Rollie. Looking around the room she saw the two dancing, every closing. She didn't think, when Dani turned up at their table, Rollie would be going anywhere with the dumb actress. After all she and Rollie were the ones on the date. Weren't they?
For about fifteen minutes she sat there watching Rollie dancing with Dani and waiting for him to come back. Looking away from Rollie and Dani, Angie saw a man standing in front of her table.
"Want to dance?" He asked smiling.
"Sure." Angie replied, mad at Rollie, getting up from the table.
As she went off to dance, she didn't notice another man approach the table and pour a white powdery substance into her soda, then walk away, nodding to the man she was dancing with.
After two dances, Angie returned to the table. Rollie was still with Dani. Angie was too mad at Rollie to notice the Aussie didn't look like he wanted to be with the actress and had been trying the whole time to get away from her.
Finishing her soda, about thirty minutes later, Angie started to feel strange. Woozy and dizzy. The people started spinning. And the noises in the club started to blend into a garbled mess. Angie slowly got up and started to make her way in the direction she last saw Rollie.
Rollie looked over the crowd, spotting the table and person he really wanted to be with. He saw Angie get up from the table, holding onto the table side. She didn't look to good. Rollie could tell something wasn't right.
As he tried to get Dani to let go of his waist, so he could get to Angie, Rollie saw two men stop in front of Angie. They both took one of her arms and led her to the door. She wasn't struggling and Rollie didn't like that. Something was definitely not right.
"Rollie, what is it?" Dani asked, seeing Rollie what looking at her, but off into the crowd.
"I gotta go." Rollie mumbled absently, walking away from Dani, not taking his eyes off of Angie and the two men that were with her.
With his heart pounding, Rollie pushed shoved through the crowd, leaving a confused and upset Dani behind. He started calling Angie's name, but the noise was too loud for anyone but himself to hear the calls.
Rollie picked up his pace, seeing the two men take Angie out of the club and out of his sight.
By the time he got outside he didn't see anyone. He started yelling Angie's name again. A moment later he darted off in the direction he started hearing some noises from.
Coming to a halt at a alley, Rollie spotted who he was chasing. One of the men was on top of a fairly unconscious Angie, taking off his belt. The other man was sitting by Angie's head, pinning her arms down, which wasn't totally necessary, since Angie was completely out of it.
"Hey! Get the bloody hell away from her!" Rollie shouted rushing forward. Both men stood up and for a minute stood shocked at the disruption. Then, the one who was on top of Angie, made a move to hit Rollie, but Rollie ducked in time, and the Aussie ended up hitting the man in the stomach instead of getting hit. As the man bent over, Rollie then hit him in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground semi-conscious. The other man looking at his friend, looked at Rollie not sure what to do. Run or fight. Before he could make up his mind, Rollie punched him in the nose. The man fought back. Soon the two men were on the ground fighting. Before long, the one man was laying unconscious next to his friend.
Getting up, and wiping the blood from his nose on his shirt sleeve, he knelt down next to Angie. "Angie? Come on, wake up now." Rollie pleaded, lightly patting the side of her cheek. She mumbled slightly, but didn't open her eyes. Rollie carefully picked Angie up, and started back to the club, leaving the two unconscious men where they were.
An hour later, the police were at the club. Angie was now conscious, but still very groggy. Rollie wrapped his suit jacket around Angie's shoulders. She was leaning heavily against him, head resting on his shoulder. They were sitting back at the table they originally had. Once the police arrived and Rollie told them what happened, the two men who were still in the ally, being watched by some of the men from the club, were cuffed, arrested, and put into one of the squad cars.
"Angie, you gonna be all right?" Mira asked, who came in as soon as she heard what was happening, handing Angie a cup of water. Mira looked over at Rollie when Angie didn't answer her question, just took a sip from the water and closed her eyes, laying her head back on Rollie's shoulder.
"The medics say she's gonna be okay. That by morning, whatever those guys slipped Angie, should be gone." Rollie told Mira, rubbing Angie's back slowly. "The EMT's suggested she go to the hospital, to get a blood sample to find out what exactly she was given, but Angie said she didn't want to go. So they took a sample themselves."
"Okay." Mira replied, nodding her head.
"Rollie, I want to go home." Angie mumbled quietly, opening her eyes.
"Yeah, we're done with you for now. But I'm gonna have to question Angie more tomorrow, she didn't give us much tonight." Mira said, getting up from the table as Angie and Rollie did the same.
"Okay. Come on Ange, we'll go home now." Rollie told the blonde still hanging onto her, as they started out of the club and to the car. Rollie let out a groan as Dani approached them.
"Rollie! Are you sure your okay? Your eye looks horrible." Dani started in, as Rollie opened the passenger side of the car door for Angie, and helped her in.
"I'm just fine Dani. And if you even care, Angie is gonna be okay too." Rollie replied, glaring at the actress.
"Of course I car......" Dani started, following Rollie around to the car. She stopped talking when Rollie interrupted her, getting into the car.
"Bye Dani." Rollie said. "Don't bother to call me or anything. We're over with. For good." Starting the car he pulled away leaving Dani standing out in the parking lot, fuming. How could he go off with her and leave Angie, especially on their first date of all things, alone? Rollie didn't know.
Instead of Rollie taking Angie back to her apartment, he drove back to the loft, not wanting to leave her alone that night.
"Come on Ange, we're home." He told the woman sitting in the passenger seat, as he helped her out of the car.
They moved over to the couch, Angie leaning against Rollie, still a little groggy. Rollie helped Angie sit down on the couch, then grabbed a blanket that was laying on one of the nearby chairs, and covered Angie with it. He then went into the kitchen to make some earl gray tea.
A few minutes later he came back to the lounge, with two mugs in his hands. Angie was looking better, as she ran her hands through her hair.
"Here, sweetie." He said, handing her one of the mugs of tea.
"Thanks Rollie." She replied, taking a sip of the warm relaxing tea, as he sat down next to her. "Rollie?"
"Yeah?" He asked, looking at her.
"What happened? Back at the club I mean?"
"You don't remember?"
"Not much. It's just a big blur really." She told him, staring into the mug.
"Well, what do you remember?"
"I remember going to the club with you. And Dani coming by. I got up went to the rest room and when I came back you were gone. Then I danced with some guy. After drinking the rest of my soda, it's all a blur." She told him.
"Okay. Well, it seems the guy you danced with had a friend who drugged your drink when no one was at the table." Rollie started to explain. "I saw you get from the table a bit tipsy. And when I started towards you two guys came up to you and started to lead you outside. I followed. When I got outside I found you all in an dark alley. One of the guys were on top of you and the other was holding your hands down. But the way you were out, I don't think he needed to do that."
"Oh." Angie said, head down, rubbing her hands against the warm mug. Try as she might she could not remember a thing Rollie had just told her. And she couldn't remember what happened next either. "What then?"
"I clobbered them. Took you back inside of the club, left them in the alley unconscious and called the cops." Rollie told her.
"Thank you." Angie said.
"No need for that. I don't deserve to be thanked anyway." Rollie told her.
"What do you mean by that? You saved me."
"Angie, I could've prevented the whole thing if I didn't go off with Dani!" He told her, upset by his stupidity of leaving with the model turned actress.
"Rollie, I don't blame you for that. It's okay."
"No it isn't Angie. I....... We.... We were on a date. I had finally got the courage to ask you out on a date, and what do I do I leave you to go off with Danielle Van Der Glasse!" Rollie exclaimed, standing up and starting to pace in front of the couch.
"Rollie......"
"No, let me finish please." Rollie interrupted her, kneeling down in front of her, putting her mug on a near by table, and taking her hands in his. "I'm so sorry for leaving you alone tonight. I'm not real clear on why I left with her, and I probably never will know really why, but I think it might've been because I was nervous. I wanted to please you and wanted to make tonight a perfect evening so if I asked you out again you'd say yes. And I didn't feel that way with Dani. And that's only because she doesn't mean as much, in fact she means nothing to me, but you... you mean everything to me. I guess I was trying so hard to please you it backfired and it turned into a whole mess."
Angie stared at Rollie, listening to all he had to say, trying his best to apologize. The more he talked the more it turned into babbling. Finally, she put a finger up to his lips to quiet him. "Rollie, I understand, I think. You said you're sorry for leaving and I believe and forgive you. We were both nervous. Going on a date with each other tonight was different for both of us. And will take some getting used to. That is if you want to try it again?"
"Yes, I'd love to try it again, and I promise not to leave you alone." Rollie told her, moving to sit next to her, wrapping his arms around her and she leaned against his chest.
"And Rollie, one more thing. You don't ever have to worry about trying to please me. I'm content with the way you are now." She told him, closing her eyes, already fall a sleep, as he placed a kiss on the top of her head.
"Good night sweets." Rollie replied, leaning his head back against the couch trying to get some sleep himself.
