Rollie sat on the floor a hand over his right eye. Muttering a 'bloody hell' quietly.
Angie rushed over to him and kneeled down next to him. Her eyes were watering and she was starting to breath hard. "Rollie.... .Are you okay?......... I'm so sorry..... I didn't know.......... I thought it was............"
"Angie, I'm fine. It was nothing. It's okay." Rollie told her, taking his one hand off of his bruising eye. She was looking down, away from his face, but he could still see hitting him was affecting her a lot. She was still babbling on about what she did. As she got more worked up, her words got more slurred and harder to understand. "Angie, shhh. Calm down, it really is okay. You didn't know it was me." Rollie continued to try to reassure her, but it wasn't working. She finally collapsed in tears. As she buried her head in her hands, Rollie pulled her into her arms. She momentarily tensed up, but soon relaxed.
Rollie wasn't sure how much time had passed like that, her crying, and him holding her, till she finally calmed down and fell asleep. Rollie picked her up and put her back into his bed. Then he sat down in a chair next to the bed and after awhile dosed off himself.
The next morning, Rollie just made it down the stairs from the shower, when Leo showed up.
"Did you talk to Bryan Welsh yet? What did he say?" Rollie asked the detective quickly.
"Yes I talked to him." Leo replied grimly.
"Well?????? What did he say????"
"He has a tight alibi, Rollie." Leo told the Aussie.
"What?"
"Yeah. He claims he was with the director the night of the attack. And the director confirms it. I'm having Francis check around the place they're both claiming they were at last night, to see if he can find some witnesses to prove this.
"Bloody hell!" Rollie shouted, quiet enough so Angie wouldn't hear from upstairs, where he left her to take her shower. "Thanks anyway Leo."
"Hey, Rollie? Where'd you get that black eye? It wasn't there when I left here last night." Leo asked. "You didn't go over and pay a visit to the certain actor did you?!"
Rollie just gave Leo a dirty look and started for the kitchen.
"You didn't did you?!" Leo asked following Rollie into the kitchen.
"No I didn't. Believe me, knowing how I feel towards him, you and every cop and news cast in the world, would know about it by now!" Rollie replied, angry.
"Okay I believe you." Leo replied. "Where'd you get it then?"
"From me." Came a reply from Angie as she walked into the kitchen, and took a mug of tea that Rollie offered her. She sat down at the counter, and out of the corner of her eye saw Leo's stunned look.
Rollie walked over to the counter, and leaned against it, deciding to change the subject from hi black eye before Angie freaked out again. "Angie, looks like Bryan has alibi for the night of your attack."
Angie just sat there still, staring out in front of her as Rollie finished telling her everything Leo had told him, just a while before.
"Look, Angie, no matter what, if Bryan isn't the guy or even if he is, we'll get this guy. I promise you this." Leo told the woman.
"When? When are you going to get him? I want him now!" Angie exclaimed, jumping up from the stool she was sitting on.
"Angie, Leo is trying his best here. It had only been just a little over a day." Rollie told her, not really blaming her for being upset, though. He wanted catch this guy just as bad.
"I don't give a hoot how long it has been! I want him now!" She yelled back, storming out of the room.
"I see her attitude over catching this guy has changed a lot since yesterday." Leo said, remembering how she acted, half out of it, the day before.
"Yeah it has." Rollie replied, deciding to give Angie a minute before going after her.
"What changed her mind?" Leo asked, turning to look at Aussie.
"Her hitting me." He replied, exiting the kitchen leaving, the detective puzzled by those words of hitting again.
Rollie found Angie, sitting, half way up the staircase, on one of the metal steps, her head in her hands.
"Angie, you okay?" Rollie asked, slowly placing a hand on her back.
"Yes...... No... I don't know. Yesterday I was just stunned by what happened. I couldn't think straight. Now, after I hit you, I got over that daze. Now I just want to catch the guy who did this to me." She replied saying more than she actually meant to.
Rollie, not really sure what to say, wrapped his arms around her tightly, and she leaned her head against his chest. Gently, he placed a small kiss on the top of her head. Then resting his chin on her head, he whispered to her, "I want to catch him too, Angie. And we really will. As much as it'll hurt, it's just gonna take time to find him."
After a few minutes, Leo came out of the kitchen, finding Angie and
Rollie sitting together, Rollie holding Angie close, her head leaning against
him. Quietly clearing his voice, Leo spoke up. "I'm gonna get back the
station now. See if Francis found anything yet. I'll call if I get anything
new."
