Half an hour later, Angie was released from the hospital. Rollie would've preferred to take her straight home, but Leo needed her to come down to the station for questioning and to make a statement of what happened.
Rollie had sat silent next to the young woman as she relayed the events of the previous nights attack.
She told them about walking home and having a feeling someone was following her. She hadn't seen anyone. Then she was grabbed from behind, and dragged into a alley. She said she didn't she her attacker. It was too dark out, and he kept his face hidden. She told them she guessed he was around 5'9" or so.
Rollie clenched his fists together as Angie had to describe everything that happened after her attacker pulled her into the alley. There were a couple times, that Rollie was sure she was going to break down right then and there but she hadn't. Why did she have to act so tough about this?
Two hours later, after Leo said he was done with questioning and stuff
for now, he drove her and Rollie to the loft. Rollie turned in the passenger
seat in the front, to look behind him at Angie. She was sitting silent
looking out the side window. She had not at all questioned the presence
of her cat. She had hardly spoken on the ride to the loft.
When they got to the loft, Angie silently walked up to her work station. Rollie let out a sigh as he watched her. Leo left promising Rollie they'd find who attacked Angie. Rollie nodded his head and watched the detective leave.
The morning passed by slowly. Angie stayed up at her workstation working quietly. Rollie paced around the shop, not able to concentrate on his own work. In the middle of the afternoon he made a couple of sandwiches and took one up to Angie, along with a bottle of water. She told him she wasn't hungry, and went back to her work on the computer.
As Rollie came down the stairs, with the untouched food Angie wouldn't eat, the phone rang. Putting the water and plate down on a nearby table Rollie answered the phone.
"Tyler FX. Rollie speaking."
"Rollie, it's Kevin. I was just wondering where you were? You and Angie were supposed to be at the set this morning?" Kevin, the director of "Black Fire", inquired.
"Some things came up." Rollie told him, staring up at Angie's workstation. "Listen, Kevin, Tyler FX isn't going to be able to finish your movie."
"Rollie! You can't do this to me! We really need you on this movie!" The suddenly upset director exclaimed. "Look, if this is about the way Bryan's been acting towards Angie, I can take care of it. I already talked to him earlier this week. He said he'd back off."
"It's not about that, Kevin. Even though he shouldn't of been acting that way towards Angie in the first place. And he had backed down some." Rollie told the director.
"Well, then why do you have to quit? Whatever it is I'll try to fix it!"
"I can't tell you what's going on. It's nothing you or anyone else can fix either. I'm sorry, Kevin. I gotta go." Rollie told the director, and hung up before he could do anymore pleading.
"Who was that?" Angie asked, a few minutes later, coming done the stairs, and walking towards him.
"Um....... Kevin Fanks." Rollie started. He knew once Angie found out he bailed on this movie she would yell at him. He just didn't think she was ready to work. It had been less than 24 hours since her attack. She may seem like she was fine but Rollie knew she wasn't. It was all an act. "He wanted to know where we were. And I told him that he'd have to fine someone else to finish the special effects."
"Why'd you do that?!" Angie exclaimed, putting her hands on her hips.
"Because, Ang, I simply don't think you can handle it right now! Even if I did think you could handle it I wouldn't let you work still! Ang, you were attacked less than 24 hours ago! You gotta take a break." Rollie told sternly, he had gotten up from his chair and was walking towards her, when she turned around and went back up to her workstation.
Rollie had gone up to the VR chamber. An hour later he came down, and found Angie in the kitchen making some tea. He had started towards her, but a knock at the doors interrupted him.
Opening the door, he found Kevin Fanks and Bryan Welsh on the other side.
"Hello, Rollie. Can we come in?" Kevin asked.
"What are you two doing here?" Rollie asked stepping aside to let the director and actor in.
"Bryan has something to say to Angie. Don't you Bryan?" The director started, half glaring at he uncomfortable looking actor.
"Yeah." He answered, looking from the director, then to Rollie, and finally to Angie, who had come out of the kitchen when she heard voices. "Look, Angie, I'm sorry. I shouldn't of said those things to you." He started.
That's not what she heard though. She heard a voice like Bryan's, but not the same words he spoke at that moment.
//You shouldn't of ignored me like you did.//
"I should've left you alone." Bryan continued.
//You should've paid more attention to me.//
"That was wrong of me."
//Now you pay the price.//
Rollie noticed Angie was getting more and more panicked as Bryan apologized. By the time he finished, Angie ran up the metal staircase.
"Angie?!" Rollie called out, concerned.
"Rollie, I didn't mean to make her upset." Bryan started, but Rollie cut him off.
"Yeah. I think you two should go now." Rollie told them, opening the door. After they left he ran up the stairs concerned about Angie.
"Angie?" Rollie said, walking into his room.
Angie looked up seeing Rollie enter the room. She quickly wiped away the tears that were pouring down her cheeks.
"Angie? What's wrong?" Rollie asked gently, sitting down next to her.
"What he said." Angie answered shaking.
"Ang, I really don't think anything Bryan said was all that bad. He was just trying to apologize. Which is something he should've done earlier." Rollie told her.
"No. Last night. Something HE said to me last night." Angie told him, trying to stay calm.
"The man who ra.... attacked you?! He said something? What did he say?" Rollie asked frantically.
"Something about that I shouldn't of ignored him, that I should've paid more attention to him, and that now I had to pay the price." Angie told him, trying her best not to cry in front of him, breathing hard and fast. "His voice....... It sounded just like Bryan's."
"I'm callin' Leo." Rollie told her, moving over to the phone on the
night stand next to the bed.
