The sun had been vanishing over the horizon by the time they had fled Gustav Mazarin's house… and now, after the drive through traffic it was dark outside, the light wind turning cold and bitter.

Angela pulled the sports car to stop outside the Midtown South precinct, and turned to look at Rollie who sat in the passenger seat, he hadn't spoken since confirming he'd got the information the police wanted.
' Are we going in?' she asked, blue eyes meeting brown, concern clearly visible.

Rollie looked back, wondering if she knew how much those eyes spoke to his soul when she looked at him like she was at that moment ' Keep it running I'll be right back' he answered, throwing the door open, and bag in hand headed up the steps.

Inside the station, Rollie headed straight for Vanduran's office, knowing that the captain would want the evidence passed straight to him… especially under pressure from his own boss to get something happening with the kidnapping.
' Captain' he said, stepping into the office.
' Tyler… what happened?' Vanduran asked, taking the bag from the Aussie's hand and inquiring ' Is that it?'
' I don't know… it's what was in the safe' Rollie replied ' I didn't have time to stop and look'

He turned as the door opened, smiled as Mira walked inside with Tony at her side.
' Good job Tyler' Vanduran answered, gazing up from several sheets ' This is more than just the plan to kidnap Mr Spielberg… could be his whole operation'
' What's going to happen to Clem?  His life's forfeit because of this' Rollie responded ' Oh yeah, before I forget, you'd better take this' he finished, handing over the weapon he'd carried.
' It's a tricky deal, though he has cooperated to get us information on who was behind this… I think he'll probably join the witness protection program given the choice of that or jail for what he did' Tony replied with a grin.
' I'd like to see him' Rollie answered.
' Sanchez… take him down' Vanduran ordered ' and Tyler… good work… you too as well detectives'

' So you made it in one piece… that's good' Clem said, seeing Rollie walk into the room ' I hope you bust that schmuck… how much did he offer you?'
' Two hundred grand' Rollie replied.
' Ha… typical… it was meant to be five if everything went to plan' Clem replied with a grin ' No wonder he's set up like he is'
' I just wanted to see you before they ship you out… and to say thankyou for keeping Angela and myself alive' Rollie answered.
' You could have escaped… I was lucky to keep you as long as I did' Clem answered ' anyway, saving you seems to have saved me'
' I guess you could say that.  Stay well Clem and good luck' Rollie motioned his acceptance before turning back to the door.
' Good luck to you too Tyler' Clem responded, surprised that he actually meant it.

' Done?' Angie asked as Rollie slid back into the car.
' Yeah… let's go home Ange' he returned, slouching back in the seat ' we can have some peace and quiet and maybe tomorrow go and see Frank'
' Sounds good boss' she answered, smiling as she pulled away and headed for Brewery Lane.

The trip back to the loft was made in silence, neither partner willing to break it, they were both lost in thought.  Reaching out, Angela pushed the button on the dash, operating the roller door for the garage before guiding the car past the van sitting outside where she'd left it when returning for the car.

The lights in the garage flickered on before she cut the engine, the door closing of it's own accord, the timer preset.  She glanced across at Rollie, who sat like a statue, unmoving, obviously thinking things over.
' Mind if I borrow the car to get home?' she asked tentatively, normally she didn't like leaving the car outside her apartment building, it wasn't too safe.
' What?  You're going?' Rollie replied, coming out of his reverie.
' I'm meant to stay awake, besides, gotta feed Chiops' she replied sensibly.
' Oh right… mind if I come for a ride?'
        ' I'll be fine Rol… you don't have to'
' I know… I want to' he answered softly, finger's trailing over her hand.
' Ok… you need to grab anything?'
' Right… yes I do… back in a jiff' he replied, pulling the door open and stepping out, hurrying through the connecting door into the loft.

' Deactivate Security Blue' he called, hurrying up the stairs, smiling broadly as his dog barked his electronic greeting… one thing that never changed.
Placing a few of his better casual clothes into a bag he turned, scanning the loft for anything else he might need, dropping in a few other items of interest before looking around again.  Not finding anything critical within sight he turned back for the stairs and headed down, ready to leave.  Before heading back into the garage he called out once more, reactivating the security before taking a seat next to his partner and giving her a smile, the sort of smile that spoke volumes to her.

Chiops was obviously very excited to see his owner return, as though he could tell that she'd been in trouble… again… Rollie amended to his thoughts with a smile.
' What are you grinning about?' Angie asked suspiciously.
' What do you mean grinning?' he asked, ear to ear smile in place ' and why shouldn't I be?'
' Well I guess you have a point there' she answered turning to smile back at him as she moved across to the kitchen to feed her pet.
' When's Mira due in?' Rollie asked, casually taking a seat on the couch, stretching his long legs out in front of him.
' She's not… work at the station and then something about having to stop in at her apartment… I know there was never anything wrong… she said she'll crash there' Angie replied from the kitchen ' I suppose you set that whole flooded thing up didn't you?'
' Who me?' Rollie asked innocently as she returned to take a seat next to him.
' Yeah you… I know you too well Rollie' she replied with a smile ' I know more about you than you might think'
' Oh really?' he answered, eyebrows raised ' Is that a challenge?'
        ' Absolutely' she answered.
' I think there's one or two things you don't know yet'
        ' Like what?'
' Like how much you mean to me'
        ' You know… you're right… I… don't know that'
' See, that's at least one thing' he answered, gently putting an arm around her shoulders and drawing her closer, free hand rising to softly stroke her soft blonde hair.

About to make another quip at her long time friend she stopped, the intensity of his brown eyes capturing hers, making her suddenly uncertain.

' I hated the fact you knew how I felt, knowing that you didn't feel the same' she whispered ' all those years'
' but I do… it just took this outback boyo a while to figure it out'

Angela smiled a half smile as Rollie finished speaking.  For an outback boyo he'd made an amazing life for himself, educated himself, driven his own company to heights by simply being himself… and he'd always looked out for her, had been her friend, had been so comforting when her father had passed on.

Drawn back to the present by his gentle touch she gazed into his eyes, seeing everything he held so dear, his affection clearly visible.  Her eyes locked to his then and she leant into the embrace he offered, feeling the kisses he dropped on her neck holding him for a moment before pulling back, drawing his face down to hers, pressing her lips to his own it felt… right.

' You are so special' he whispered softly, clapping his hands twice and plunging the room into darkness.
