Driving along the moderately trafficked route back to the loft, Rollie watched the road even while talking to Angie on the small earpiece communication device.
' So how'd everything go?' he asked.
' Fine Rol, nothing much of a challenge at the moment in our section.  Hopefully they'll throw something interesting our way soon'
' You still want to do this don't you?  I mean if it's boring maybe you could find something else'
' Then I wouldn't be working with you though Rol'
' You aren't exactly working with me at the moment though.  I've spent more time with Frank than with you'
' I know this is hard Rol.  I want to be there with you but we agreed this would be a better use of my…'
' Genius' Rollie finished ' I know, still…I'd rather have you helping me, being with me'
' That's what I want too Rollie but at the moment we can't'
' At least we can grab some moments like these'
' Yeah and having dinner together'
' You know… I wish I hadn't asked them now.  A dinner for two sounds like just the ticket'
        ' Maybe another night Rol'

Arriving back at the loft, Rollie pulled up and opened the door of the van.  Angie was out of her seat, bag in hand and hurried down the steps in front of him.  Rollie stepped down and with Angie headed for the loft, Mira and Frank just arriving as they opened the door.
Moving inside Rollie headed straight for the kitchen, calling to Mira and Frank to take a seat while they got things ready.

' Angie where's the…' Rollie started, turned and found Angela holding what he wanted finished ' Thanks'

As things progressed they found that everything was as smooth as it normally was, knowing what the other wanted and having it ready, finishing up at the same time so nothing got cold before the others was done.
' Smells great Angie' Rollie commented.
' Yeah, just like when we used to cook together'
' I guess we haven't lost too much of the touch'
' Yeah, things still work like always'
' Some things are working better' Rollie added quietly with a smile that had Angela raising her eyebrows and then grinning back at him.

By the time they'd finished getting everything ready they were chatting like old times, poking fun at each other and joking about work.  The depressive atmosphere that had hovered around them had disappeared and Rollie felt better than he had in months.
Serving the meal up, Rollie directed Mira and Frank upstairs to the small table they used for real meals.  Waiting for Angie to grab the other two plates, Rollie headed up the stairs and placed them before the two detectives while Angie placed theirs on the table.
' Well… dig in' Rollie said watching the detectives apprehensive looks.
' You first' Mira countered even as Rollie picked up his fork and took a bite.
' Hmmm, delicious Angela' Rollie commented.
' It's not going to bite ya you know' Angie commented to Mira and Frank as she took a bite.

The detectives slowly started eating and suddenly looked at each other, Rollie hadn't been kidding when he'd said it was delicious, in fact Frank was willing to put it up against his wife Sarah's.
' When did you two learn how to cook like this?' Mira asked.
' Actually Angie's the cook, I just help out' Rollie answered.
' That's not true Rollie, I just helped polish your cooking up a bit' Angie said with a smile.
' Well how did you learn how to cook Angie?'
' My mother started me off and my dad was a real good cook too.  He finished it off' Angie answered, lifting another forkful to her mouth.
' I think I'll have to take lessons from you' Mira answered ' I cook for myself but not like this'

Angie smiled and looked over at Rollie, he'd sampled her cooking before and had taken an interest, helping her out.  Seeing her looking at him he reached for the bottle of wine and poured for everyone.  Letting the wine do it's job, Rollie watched as everyone started to relax.  No one drunk enough that it would affect their job the next day but enough to leave everyone feeling happy and at ease with the others.

' Don't worry with that…I'll do it later' Rollie said as Angela started to pick up the plates from the table.  Frank had just left, heading home to see his family and Mira had seen him out, before coming back inside to grab her things from downstairs, preparing to head back to the apartment with Angie.
' I'll be gone later Rol' Angie pointed out.
' That's why I'd rather not waste it doing dishes' he answered, reaching across the table to take her hand, his eyes taking in her own, they glanced out from under her hair, meeting his gaze.
' Mira's downstairs Rol and unless you want to tell her to go home alone again I've got to get going as well' Angela said softly.
' I wish you would stay Angie' Rollie said equally as softly.
' Maybe soon I will' Angie replied, things were going well between them but doubts still plagued her.

Standing up Rollie helped Angie up out of her chair and pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her, she was smiling and relaxed.  Running her hands lightly over his face as he did the same, drawing her closer until their lips met.
' I'm glad you didn't leave me Angie.  I keep waking up at night, I've had nightmares ever since you told me about Loubar, dreams that he made you leave me' Rollie said, finally explaining what he'd been going through since that night.
' You never told me' Angie whispered looking at him, he'd been her only family, and she almost his since her father had died.
' You had your own worries Angela, you didn't need mine as well'
' You helped bear mine though Rollie, you didn't have to be alone with yours'

Rollie couldn't think of anything else to say, so he simply pulled her tighter to him, letting all the love he felt for her flow into the embrace.  He could feel his heart beating faster within his chest, could feel hers beating against his chest, could feel her pressing against him, her curvaceous body arising feelings in him that he only barely kept in check.
' This is nice' Rollie said softly.
' It is nice' Angie agreed ' I almost feel safe when we're together like this' she whispered in return.
' Almost?' Rollie asked, then said ' I'm sorry I can't do a better job'
' It's not your fault Rollie' Angie insisted smiling broadly as Rollie leaned closer to plant a kiss on her neck.

' You ready Angie?' Mira called up the stairs.  It had been very quiet up there since she'd returned from seeing Frank off.  She started walking towards the stairs.

Rollie looked down at Angie and gave her a last quick kiss, feeling the warmth of her lips, the slightly salty flavor… as he drew away he could feel the lingering touch as though it would burn forever on his lips.
' Coming' Angie shouted back down the stairs, slightly breathless, the look she gave Rollie as she headed for the stairs was once more filled with the warmth and love that she'd always shown him… he just hadn't seen it before.

Seeing Mira halfway up the stairs Angie gave an annoyed look, as though she knew the reason the woman was on the stairs, before stepping past her with a buoyancy in her step that Rollie's care and love had put there.
Rollie followed not long behind, carrying a armful of dishes over to the sink before following Angie over to the door where Mira now waited as well, smiling as he went.

Angie stepped closer and gave Rollie a brief hug saying ' I'll see you at the set tomorrow… right?'
Nodding, Rollie answered ' Sure Ange, I'll drop in and see you before I hit the next gag I've got to set up'
' We'd better be going then' Mira said, obviously wanting to get some sleep ' Thanks for the dinner Rollie'
' Dinner was great, glad you came' Rollie answered, watching as the two women left said ' Night Mira' to the detective and more softly ' Night sweetie' to Angie.

Rollie could tell that Angie had heard him, the smile on her lips, those lovely soft lips, had been half amused and half pleased.  He was beginning to remember how things had gone with Taya, before she'd left him standing at the airport alone.  The small gifts and presents he'd sent her, the sentences whispered in private… he was looking forward to saying a few things to Angie soon.
