I Saw a Man Who Wasn't There...
Part Eleven

Angie ran as fast as she could.  Loubar was on the street outside.  She could hear him calling her.
Angie passed a door.  Opening it, she saw it led into a small, shabby office, with no exits except for a small window, which provided a meager amount of light, just enough for Angie to see by.  If she was to hide in that office, Angie knew, Loubar would be sure to find her.  And she'd have nowhere to run.
She passed to more doors which opened into similar offices.  By now the light provided to her by the windows in the front lobby had faded, and she was making her way down the hallway by feel.  She could feel her heart pounding hard in her chest, and there was a faint taste of blood in her mouth.
A few feet after rounding a corner, the hallway ended abruptly.  Feeling around, Angie realized she had found the emergency exit.  The back door.  She found a handle, and turned it slowly, peering out into the darkness.
The door opened out into a second alleyway.  At first, it looked deserted.  But then, squinting, she could make out a tall figure pressed against the wall of the building near the end of the alley.  It took her a moment to realize it wasn't Loubar.
Suddenly, the figure turned, and, feeling a flood of relief, she realized who it was.  The man ran toward her, and Angie ran forward.  She hugged him tightly.  "Rollie," she whispered.  Her eyes were beginning to moisten.  "Is it you?"
"Sshh," Rollie whispered.  "Yes, love, it's me."  Rollie stroked her hair.  She winced as his fingers brushed a cut on her forehead.
"We have to get out of here," said Angie.  Loubar was still calling for her, his shouts echoing off across the deserted streets.
"Can you walk okay?" asked Rollie, as they started back down the alley, away from the sound of Loubar's voice.  Angie was limping badly.  Rollie didn't doubt that she was probably badly hurt -- more so than she was letting on.
"Yeah," she said, wincing when she put her weight on the ankle.
"Tony's around here somewhere," said Rollie, as they came back out onto the street again.  "We have to find him.  The car's just down the street."
Rollie helped Angie back to the police car, and helped her in.  Suddenly, he heard a yell from behind him.  He turned.
"Rollie!" called Tony, running out from between two buildings.  He was holding his gun.
"Tony!" said Rollie.  "I found Angie."
"Good," said Tony.  He moved around to the driver's side of the car and holstered his gun.  "Let's go."
Rollie had just grabbed the door handle when he froze, his eyes fixated on Tony.  Angie followed his gaze.  Tony's gun wasn't the standard police issue.  "Uh, Tony," began Rollie.
Tony stopped, and looked up.  "Yeah?"
    "Rolliiieee!!!!!" came a weak yell.
Holding his shoulder, and wincing in pain, a man stumbled out from where Tony had come from.
Rollie's eyes widened as he realized who he saw.
It was a second Detective Tony Rizzo.
