THE WISH:
PART 1
SATURDAY OCTOBER 10, 1998
After a long day at the set, finishing up a movie. Rollie, a tall, dark haired Australian and his blonde haired assistant, Angie headed back to the workshop. Half way home Rollie noticed Detective Mira Sanchez's car following them, he wondered what they wanted. It was 6:30PM when they pulled into the alley by the workshop, Rollie saw another car waiting for them, with an attractive red head in it. As they pulled up to the shop, Rollie got out, as did the red head in the car.
She said, "Mr. Tyler, I'm Rebecca Ostlund, I'm a member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and I need to talk to you for a few minutes."
Rollie said, "okay why don't you come in and we'll talk."
At that moment Angie, Mira, and Francis came up to them. Mira heard most of the conversation and she said, "ah, come on Tyler why don't you take Miss Ostlund out for coffee and talk. Angie can help us out on our needs."
"Whenever they say that I worry about what they're planning," said the suspicious Australian, "well shall we."
Rebecca smiled and said, "Why not and this could make a child very happy, thank you."
As Rollie and Rebecca walked to the caf‚ down the street, she turned her head and winked.
Angie looked at Mira and asked, "you know her?'
"Yes," Mira said, I do know her and I will tell you about her while we get set up."
Rollie and Rebecca reached the caf‚ and went inside to sit in a corner booth.
Rollie asked, "what's all this about and how do you know Mira?"
"I've known Mira for years, we went to high school together." Rebecca said, "I'm here to make a twelve-year-old, terminally ill boy's wish come true. All he wants is to meet and maybe help with your next movie and get an understanding of special effects before he leaves this life for the next."
"I never thought about a child losing his or her life before." Said Rollie, "I will be more than happy to make this young man's wish come true."
At the workshop Angie, Mira, and Francis went inside to start getting ready for the party.
"Well, are you going tell us about Rebecca or not?" asked Angie.
Mira said, "okay, I will tell you about her. She and I have been friends since high school that is how I know her. She got involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation after her son at the age of eight died of a brain tumor, but before he died the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him a wish, a trip to England. One week after returning from the trip her son died, but the memories of that trip keeps her going and now she helps with other children's wishes.
Angie said, "That is so sad but I'm glad she is doing something to help other children who are terminally ill. I'm sure we will help in any way."
Rollie and Rebecca had talked for about an hour when he finally asked her, "how did you get involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation?"
Rebecca said, "I got involved after the foundation had given my son his wish of a trip to England. That was the happiest I had seen him in a long time. He had a brain tumor, the doctors did everything they could, but nothing seemed to help. He died one week after we returned from the trip and that was two years ago."
"I'm so sorry," said the sympathetic Australian, "about the loss of your son and I understand more now about Make-A-Wish. I often wondered about it and if I can help in any way I'd be happy to."
Rebecca said, " Well, there is one wish you can help me grant to a twelve year old, his name is Jeffery Harrison. He has a tumor in his brain stem and is in a wheelchair now."
Rollie says, "well give me a day or so to make the shop and the van wheelchair accessible, then he can come and help us put together the props and make some skin molds for a new project, which starts Monday."
Rebecca said, "thank you Rollie it will make him so happy to spend time with his favorite FX man.
"Well I better get back to the shop before anything happens," remarked Rollie.
Rebecca asked, "hey, mind if I come along I've never seen a special effects shop before."
"Why not," said Rollie, "lets go see what they've been up to."
When Rollie and Rebecca arrived at the shop, at about 7:30PM they found the door wide open and the interior dark.
"What the bloody hell's going on here?" He remarked rather loudly.
Rebecca was taken aback by the statement and asked, "What happened to everyone?"
"I wished I knew the answer to that question myself," stated Rollie.
When he stepped through the door he was suddenly bombarded by light and about twenty people yelling, "SURPRISE," at him.
Lucinda, a pretty, dark haired actress, walked up to him with a silly birthday hat on and one in her hand, she put it on his head and said, "happy birthday Rol, and you thought you could hide your birthday didn't you."
"Hey how did all of you find out, Angie did you tell them," remarked rollie.
"Me, heck no, I wouldn't do that to you Boss," said Angie.
Then Rollie turned and looked at Mira and Francis.
"Okay, it was me," stated Mira, "I wanted to know when your birthday was so I looked it up on the computer at Midtown South and found out it was today so have fun."
"Okay, I'll let it go this time but don't let it slip again," said Rollie, then he turned to Rebecca, "hey, Rebecca do you think Jeffery maybe interested in a birthday party?"
"I'll give him a call and see if he would like to join us," stated Rebecca.
Angie asked, "Hey, Rol whose Jeffery?"
"Jeffery is a young man who has been through more than any of us and he's going to help us our next project," said Rollie
"Oh, you mean the Make-A-Wish Foundation wants us to grant a wish, that's wonderful. I love the idea of helping terminally ill children to receive their wishes," stated an ecstatic Angie.
Rebecca returned she said, "well, I called Jeffery's home and asked him if he would like to join us. He said that he was very tired and had to get some sleep, but he is very excited about coming here in a couple of days to help you with the new project."
"Well, let's enjoy the party," said Rollie.
When 10:00PM rolled around Angie decided to go home, but before she left she noticed that Rollie was so drunk that he was stumbling over his own feet.
"Hey, Rol, I bet you twenty bucks you'll have the worst hangover in your life tomorrow." Laughed Angie as she watched him almost fall trying to walk over to her.
"I bet not," Slurred Rollie, "I know how to handle my beer."
"What ever I'm going home," Angie said, "at least one of us will be ready for work tomorrow."
SUNDAY OCTOBER 11, 1998
The next morning Angie came to the shop to find the door open and a disaster inside the shop. When she entered she made sure everyone inside knew it by slamming the door, which to her satisfaction caused a chain reaction of groans and a big thud and a loud groan that sounded like a constipated elephant, which made her smile because she knew it was Rollie.
"Hey, Boss you okay up there?" she yelled
"What the bloody hell am I doing on the floor," groaned Rollie.
Angie said, "well, I'm assuming you fell out of bed and that by now, you are feeling the effects of the hangover from hell."
"I need a shower, but I can't get up. Hey, Ange can you help me, please," Rollie pleaded.
"I'll be up in a minute I'm going to put some coffee on, first," stated Angie.
When Angie reached Rollie's loft bedroom she couldn't help herself, she started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Asked an angry Rollie. "Are you going to help me out of this blasted sheet or are you going to just stand there laughing at me?"
"Well, Rol I think before I let you out of that sheet I really need to take a picture of you." laughed Angie.
"What the bloody hell for I want to take a shower and now," whined Rollie.
"It'll only take a minute a parentally one of your guests last night was quite an artist because they drew an adorable puppy on your backside in marker." laughed Angie.
"Now, Angie you leave my rear end alone and no pictures damn it that's blackmail," Rollie whined.
"Now, Rollie stop your whining and act like a man. I'm taking a picture whether you want me to or not," stated Angie.
Just then Lucinda, Mira, and Francis came up to see what all the fuss was about.
Mira and Lucinda looked at each other and giggled, "hey, Rollie nice butt."
Francis said, "I think I like the dog better."
"GET ME OUT OF THIS DAMN SHEET SO I CAN DEFEND MYSELF GOD DAMN IT," yelled Rollie totally pissed off now.
"Okay, Rol just take it easy we'll have you out in a minute," said Mira.
Then all four of them grabbed a part of the sheet and pulled dumping Rollie in a heap on the floor and from there Rollie crawled to the bathroom with his pants down to his ankles.
"I sure wouldn't want to wake up like that but I think he handled it well considering three women and one man saw him naked," stated Francis trying really hard not to laugh.
"Yes, but I think we'd better get out of here while the getting's good. Good luck, Angie your going to need it today," said Mira.
"Hey, Angie I want a copy of the picture, okay?" giggled Lucinda.
"Okay, but I think Mira's right you all had better go before Rollie the bear gets out of the shower," said Angie.
When Rollie stepped out of the shower he realized he forgot a towel.
"Hey, Ange you still here?" Asked Rollie
"yes," answered Angie.
"Ah, could you bring me a towel, please?" asked Rollie nicely.
"Okay," said Angie.
When Angie reached the bathroom Rollie's back was turned with his hands covering his rear, his head turned when he heard her.
"Hey thanks." He said.
"No problem," she said as she threw the towel over his head causing him to reach for it.
"ANGELA!" exclaimed Rollie.
"Well, Rol, you still have your friend, I see." Laughed Angie as she turned and left.
When Rollie finally came down he didn't say a word until about noon when he was feeling a little better.
"Hey, Angie I'm sorry I was so cross earlier." Said Rollie.
"Oh, that's okay but I don't think anyones going to throw you a birthday party again anytime soon." Stated Angie.
Rollie looked around and noticed some of the mess was cleaned up. "This place must have been a disaster."
"Yep, that it was, but don't we have some work to do. I mean with Jeffery coming and the new project." Stated Angie.
"Yes, we do, so lets get started. The van shouldn't be a problem, we'll just take out all unnecessary equipment and find a way to keep his wheelchair from moving while driving." Stated Rollie.
"Okay, well that's no problem, but we'll have to widen the work spaces here." Said Angie.
There was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." Said Angie.
"Thanks, Love." Said Rollie.
"Hi, Rebecca what brings you by this afternoon?" asked Angie.
"Well, I got into thinking maybe I could help with getting things set up for Jeffery. I also have a remedy for the dreaded hangover." Said Rebecca; "I'm a hierologist and a tattoo enthusiast."
"YOU DIDN'T!" Rollie exclaimed.
"I did, it's only temporary, it will start fading in a couple of days." Said Rebecca. "I just couldn't resist and Mira knows my weaknesses.
"I knew it, I knew Mira had to have something to do with my butt puppy." Stated Rollie. "Well, don't be to Angry about that it was all in fun." Said Rebecca.
"I'm not Angry really, just embarrassed as hell about getting that drunk. I passed out didn't I." Stated Rollie.
"Well, you deserved it didn't you, Rol for getting drunk at your own party." Stated Angie.
"Ah, can we go to a different subject now, because I feel bad enough as it is." Rollie groaned.
They worked all day cleaning up the mess from the night before and getting things in working order again.
"This place is amazing," Rebecca said with awe in her voice, "mind if I look at your van, to see about where we could let Jeffery ride in it."
"Thanks, Go, ahead we would appreciate all the help we can get with ideas." said Rollie to Rebecca.
He went over to the van and opened the door, only to have a big stuffed dog fall out on top of him.
"WHAT THE," was all he got out before he and the dog landed on the floor.
Angie and Rebecca could do nothing but laugh, as did Rollie.
"This must be mom." Laughed Rollie.
"Yep, that herb you gave him is working." Laughed Angie as she and Rebecca walked over to pull off the stuffed dog and help Rollie to his feet. Rebecca and Rollie went into the van.
"The space by the window would be perfect and you already have brackets at four Angeles there, and I have some straps for wheelchairs that should work, in my car." Said Rebecca.
"Well, lets get them and check to see if they work." Stated Rollie.
The straps worked and with the van's hydraulics, which lowered the rear of the van to within inches of the ground, which would help a great deal in transporting Jeffery to and from the set. They were ready by 8:00 PM for Jeffery's wish.
"Hey, is it just me or are we ready for tomorrow?" Asked Rollie.
"No, Rol it's not just you, but I'm hungry. How about Pizza?" Said Angie.
Rebecca stated, "Yes, pizza would be great and I'll buy."
MONDAY OCTOBER 12, 1998
The next morning, at 6:30AM Angie arrived at the workshop to find Rollie up and raring to go.
"Hi, boss, what's on the agenda?" Asked Angie.
"Well, I've got to work on the descender rig, again. I've already got the gauntlet done. How about getting the extra limbs ready and making sure they are in working order." Said Rollie.
At the mire mention of the gauntlet made Angie wince, "Jimmy and that damn gauntlet of his. Someday we aren't going to be so lucky with it and I will have to relive my nightmare of my father's death, again." Said Angie Angrily.
There was a knock on the door.
"That must be Jeffery." Said Rollie.
Rollie and Angie walked over to the door and opened it. There was a boy in a wheelchair with his mother.
"Jeffery I presume?" Asked Rollie.
"Yes," said Jeffery, "but you can call me Jeff."
"Alright, Jeff and who is this lovely lady with you?" Asked Rollie with a big grin.
"This is my mom, Maria." Said Jeff.
Rollie shook her hand and said, "Well, it's a pleasure, but we have a lot to do, so why don't we get started. Jeff I would like you to help Angie with preparing the extra body limbs and mixing some more blood for tomorrow."
"Maria, if you wish you can help them with that, while I work on the descender rig," Stated Rollie. "I've already got the explosives ready for the shoot on Wednesday."
"EXPLOSIVES," exclaimed Maria. "What do you need with explosives?"
"The movie is an action thriller Mrs. Harrison and some scenes require explosives. Believe me, I would never put your son or you in any danger. Angie doesn't even work with them." Said Rollie.
"Hey, don't worry nothing will happen will it, Boss?" Stated Angie.
"That's right, nothing will happen, but we'd better get started or we'll have more trouble to contend with." Said the lanky Australian.
Then Angie took over and said. "He means what he says and we have to get the work done for tomorrow. I'll get the parts. Jeff, see that shelf to your right, on the third shelf there is a squeeze tube marked blood, can you get it for me."
"Yeah," he said as he rolled over to the shelf and picked up the squeeze tube and said, "this one, right."
Angie smiled, "Yep, that's the one, take it to the work bench by the computer and start kneading it for the next five minutes."
Maria asked, "Is this stuff safe?"
"Oh, believe me it's safe, most of the things we use can be found in every home across America, except of 'course the explosives." Stated Angie, "right, Boss."
"Absolutely we use all natural and biodegradable materials only." The Australian said absent mindedly as he worked on the descender rig.
Than all of a sudden he exclaimed, "THERE YOU ARE YOU LITTLE BUGGER." Than he looked up to find three people staring at him. "Ah, I think I solved the problem with the descender, but I'll have to test it before it gets used."
Than he got up and walked up the stairs with the descender rig, "I'll be down again in a minute." He said.
They watched him from below as he walked across the rafters and hooked up the descender rig over a clear space on the floor. He hooked his harness to the rig and hung in mid air.
"Is he crazy, he could kill himself if he fell from that height. Maria said worriedly.
Then they watched the descender rig lower him to three feet above the ground and there it stopped "It bloody WoRKS. The falling Australian said just as the descender rig dropped him in a heap onto the floor.
"Damn, now what is the problem." Said a very flustered Rollie, "I thought I had it, well back to the drawing board on this one. I think I'm going to take this problem outside." And he got up and went back upstairs and across the rafters to the descender rig unhooked it and came back down and walked outside with his tools.
Two hours later he came back in with the descender rig and said enthusiastically, "I definitely found the problem this time, but I'll test it later."
"Great then it will be ready for the shoot on Wednesday, right." Said Angie; "The extra limbs and the blood are done."
"Hey, great job we should be ready for tomorrow." He stated. "How about getting out of here for lunch. There's a great caf‚ down the street."
"Sounds great," said Jeff. "Mom, what do you think?"
"I don't know all that fake blood made me a little queasy." Said Maria.
"You'll feel better after a little food, trust me." Said Angie.
Once they got to the caf‚ Maria was feeling better and was ready for lunch. Rollie on the other hand was so busy showing Jeff the PDA he had brought with him that he almost forgot to eat.
"Jeff, this little gadget is an FX mans best friend and can even save your life when your in a fix it's called a PDA: Personal Digital Assistant." Stated Rollie.
"Hey Rol are you going to eat or are you going to keep flapping your jaws all day?" Asked Angie.
Rollie just then realized he had been talking so much that he blushed a little and said. "I've been acting like a gitish school boy haven't I, sorry about that but I don't get to talk shop to someone new that often."
"No problem Rol I have really enjoyed all of this and I want to know more." Said Jeff.
"Well let's eat and than we'll go back to the shop and I'll show you some really interesting characters." Stated Rollie
After they had finish eating they went back to the shop. Where Rollie introduced Jeff to Blue, his mechanical robot dog. Then he showed him how the werewolf with video optics could mimic some facial movements. Jeff got a real kick out of it and he said laughing.
"This is great Rollie it looks so real."
"That's the real trick, making it look real even though it isn't." Stated Rollie
After about 3:00PM Jeff was getting tired and everyone noticed because he became very quiet.
"Jeff we're pretty much done for today. Why don't you and your mom go home and get some rest, because we have a very busy day tomorrow at the set." Said Rollie.
"Yes, I've got to admit I'm tired." Said Jeff, "What time do we need to be here tomorrow morning?"
"Ah, how about seven o' clock sharp." Said Rollie.
"Okay," said Jeff, "seven o' clock sharp, see you tomorrow."
After Jeff and Maria left, Rollie and Angie started working on loading the van for the next day's shoot.
"He is a wonderful boy and he seems very attentive." Said Rollie.
"That he is," Said Angie, "I think if he didn't have cancer he would make a great FX man." "I let him take care of the limbs, after I showed him what to do and in two and a half hours he had them done." Stated Angie.
"I think his mother enjoyed watching him work." Said Rollie; "I was watching them through the door."
"I talked to his mother and she is worried about him, because he often starts out full of energy then in a few hours he starts tiring out." Stated Angie.
"I'm going to talk to Jimmy tomorrow about running a shorter amount of time the first week." Commented Rollie.
"I think that might be a good idea and he'd do it." Said Angie, "Well, if we're done, I think I'm going to go home it's getting late."
"Yeah, see you tomorrow at seven or earlier, if I know you." Said Rollie with a grin.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 13, 1998
The next morning Rollie woke up at about 5:30 AM. He got up and showered, then went down stairs to make coffee. When 6:00 rolled around Angie arrived to work on some of the programming for the gauntlet.
"Hi, Rol," she said.
"Hello, Love, I knew you'd be here early." Rollie stated.
"Yeah, well I've got to work on the program for the gauntlet for tomorrow." Said Angie, "Rol, you know I don't like that gauntlet and I don't want you or anyone else getting hurt."
"Ange, I know but if we start to fear the dangerous what use are we as a special effects team." He commented to his assistant.
I know but your all the family I have and if anything happens to you I don't know what I would do." Said Angie.
"Well, Ange, I will be here to torment you for a long time." Stated Rollie with a smile.
"You'd better get going on that program, because Jeff will be here in about fifty minutes or sooner."
About forty minutes later Jeff showed up and raring to go.
"Hi, Boss. How are you today, Angie?" Asked Jeff with a big grin. Angie smiled, "I'm just fine, how about you?
"Oh, I'm fine maybe a little anxious to see a real movie set with real actors on it." Said Jeff excitedly.
"Well alright let's load up and head out, we should be done today at about three." Said Rollie.
They loaded Jeff and his wheelchair into the van and headed for the set. When they arrived, Jimmy and Lucinda were waiting for them.
"Okay, I'm going to talk to Jimmy, Angie, you and Jeff start setting up, I'll be back in a few minutes." Said Rollie.
As Rollie and Jimmy walked away Jimmy said. "Hey, Jeff it's great to have you on board and thanks for all your hard work."
"Where are we going to set up the gauntlet?" Asked Rollie.
"I was thinking over in the alley. I'll show it to you." Said Jimmy.
"Jimmy, I have a favor to ask of you which concerns Jeff." Said Rollie, "We aren't going to be able to stay passed three, because the boy gets too tired and I don't want to exhaust him, alright."
"No problem, but next week we'll have to go full time status, okay." Said Jimmy.
"Thanks, Jimmy it'll mean a lot to Jeff to be able to be here." Said Rollie.
When Rollie and Jimmy came back from the alley they saw Lucinda and Jeff were laughing, what about they didn't know. As they came up they saw Angie splattered in fake blood.
"Why is it I can't ever stay clean on your sets. I always end up looking like I was in a fight not him." Said Angie while looking at Jimmy.
"Well, Sweet, I don't know, but it looks good on you like Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Laughed Rollie.
"ROLLIE," exclaimed Angie and then she slapped her hand against his chest, "there you're not leaving here clean either." Angie stated.
"Angie, this was one of my favorite shirts." Said Rollie with an evil grin on his face.
"Oh yeah well now it needs to be washed." Yelled Angie.
With all the arguing going on between Rollie and Angie they didn't notice the attention of the rest of the crew. Then all of a sudden they were throwing blood capsules at each other, but they missed to hit an innocent bystander who then got into the throwing and after about five minutes of this someone had called the police and reported the fighting.
When the police arrived the area was a mess but the people involved were laughing and having a good time. Then the firetruck arrived quietly and a hose was hooked up and then Mira arrived and she said, "okay boys hose 'em down."
The hose was brought to bear and at half pressure doused the group of people having fun.
"HEY!" The cold water was a bit of a shock. Rollie turned to find Mira, Francis, and a small group of firemen with a pump truck.
"Rollie, I should have known it would be you." Said Mira with a smile.
"Well, you definitely found an efficient way to stop a small riot didn't you, Mira?
Hey, Francis how are you doing?" Said Rollie as he walked over with a twinkle in his brown eyes that made Mira wonder what he was up to.
"Are you done with us now, detective," Asked a fireman.
Mira was about to say yes, you can go now, but Rollie said, "No, I need you to do me a favor." Then he walked over to the firemen leaving Mira a little confused.
After five minutes the firemen said, "Okay, we'll do it, Mr. Tyler."
After the firetruck left Mira asked suspiciously, "What was that all about?"
"Nothing really," said Rollie still soaking wet.
"Well, stop frightening the locals here, okay." Said Francis.
"We have to get to work now, we'll talk to you later, alright." Stated Rollie.
"Okay," said suspicious Mira, "but for some reason I don't trust you today."
About twenty minutes later Mira and Francis drove up to Midtown South precinct, when they got out of the car they were doused by the same pump truck they used at the movie set.
"TYLER!" Screamed Mira and Francis.
About twenty other officers were watching from the building thoroughly enjoying the show outside.
"Hey, what in the hell's going on?" Said Vanduran, but no one could answer him because they were laughing so hard. He had to look for himself, only to find himself laughing. "Must be Tyler, up to his old tricks, again."
At the set Rollie was thinking about how he'd love to see Mira and Francis's expressions when they were doused by the same pump truck they had used at the set.
"Angie is everything ready for the fight scene?" Asked Rollie.
"Yeah, we're ready." Said Angie.
"Okay, lets go for it." Said Jimmy standing next to Rollie.
Angie and Jeff were sitting on the ground by were the arms were to be cut off of a man to make it look like blood was spurting out of his arms.
When the scene was done both Jeff and her was covered in blood. "I wish Rollie would do this from time to time." Said Angie.
"I enjoyed it this is a lot of fun." Said Jeff laughing
Rollie brought the wheelchair over and said, "that turned out great, good job to both of you."
"Why don't you two get cleaned up while I get the gauntlet set up for tomorrow." Said Rollie.
"Okay," said Angie with concern in her voice, "be careful."
"Cluck, cluck, cluck, stop being such a mother hen." Rollie commented to his assistant.
"Well, somebody has to mother hen you sometimes. I just have a bad feeling about it, I guess." Angie commented back to her boss.
"Well, hopefully the weather is cooperative so we can get it done and over with." Said Rollie.
During this conversation Jeff was listening but didn't say a word.
"It's one o'clock I have two hours to get it set up and ready to go." Said Rollie.
He left Angie and Jeff to get cleaned up when Jeff said, "Hey Angie he'll be fine, you know what they say," "he's the best."
What they didn't know was that Alex Martell was watching them. He had not completed his assignment the first time two years ago, which was to kill Jimmy Chu instead he had killed his daughter Taia. She had sacrificed herself for Rollie Tyler the man she loved. As Martell watched Tyler and Jimmy going over the gauntlet for the following day, all he could think about was killing Tyler and not Jimmy Chu, his real target. He did notice that the gauntlet was the same basic set up as it was two years ago, so he decided that would be the way to go this time as well.
When three o'clock rolled around, Rollie was finished setting up the gauntlet and it was time to take Jeff home.
"I had so much fun on the set today I'm all played out and a mess, but I can't wait for tomorrow. Said Jeff tiredly.
"Seven o'clock tomorrow morning we'll pick you up at home okay." Said Rollie.
"Okay I'll be ready at seven." Stated Jeff with a big yawn.
When they arrived at Jeff's home his mother came out to meet them what she saw Jeff she exclaimed, "WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED!"
"Ho, mom it's just some fake blood it'll wash out right, Boss." Said Jeff.
"Yeah it'll wash out, but I would soak his clothes first then wash them." Said Rollie,
"Maria, he enjoyed himself and he wanted to be a part of the crew which can be a very dirty job.
"I know I'm just being a mother hen I guess." Said Maria. "I wished I could have been there but I had to work today and the rest of the week."
"Don't worry about it we'll pick up Jeff and drop him off so you don't have it worry about that, okay." Said Rollie. "We've got to go now, see you tomorrow, Jeff.
"See you Rollie. See you Angie." Said Jeff tiredly.
Jeff and Maria watched the van go down the street. Jeff said, "mom I had so much fun I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow."
"I can tell you're a mess young man lets get you cleaned up." Said Maria with a smile.
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 14, 1998
The next morning was cloudy but it had not rained, so Rollie got the coffee on and was up taking a shower when Angie came in poured herself a cup of coffee and sat down at the computer to work on the program for one of the later scenes.
"Good morning, Sweet." Said Rollie.
"Hi, Rol." Said Angie. "I just wanted to finish the programming the shooting scene at the end of the week."
"Well it's ten to seven we'd better get going." He said to Angie.
"Yeah I'm ready to go." Said Angie.
When they reached Jeff's house he was ready to go they got him loaded and headed for the set. When they arrived Jimmy was ready to get started, he said, "Hey, Rol we'd better get going before the weather takes a turn for the worst."
"Okay but I want to check the explosives before we go." Rollie said to Jimmy.
"Sounds good to me I'll get limbered up while you do that." Said Jimmy. Rollie went off to check over the gauntlet to make sure everything was ready and at the same time Angie and Jeff were checking the camera angles for the gauntlet.
"Things look good Rol." Said Angie.
"Good, hey Ange squirt me the angle on two." Said Rollie.
"Okay Rol." Said Angie.
"Yeah, that's good Ange." Said Rollie.
Then all of a sudden an explosion rocked the set and Angie suddenly screamed out, "ROLLIE, NO." She bolted across the set to where the explosion occurred and found Rollie fading into unconsciousness.
The last thing Rollie saw and heard was Angie running toward him screaming his name then he fell unconscious.
Part Two
Mira and Francis had just pulled up to the set, where Rollie and Angie were working on the new Jimmy Chu movie. They wanted to see the gauntlet scene as it was being filmed and they also wanted to meet Jeffery Harrison as well.
They had just parked the car next to the FX van and were getting out when all of a sudden; they heard a BOOM that made them duck.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Francis exclaimed to his partner.
Francis and Mira both turned when they heard Angie scream, "ROLLIE, NO," and bolt across the set toward the dust in the alley.
"Francis call for an ambulance and pop the trunk." Mira ordered her partner as she moved to the trunk and grabbed a blanket and the first aid kit.
When Mira came up to the site were the explosion happened she found Angie kneeling on the ground next to the unconscious Rollie.
Mira quickly assessed what injuries she could and told Angie, "an ambulance is on the way, he'll be alright, Angie."
When Mira touched her shoulder Angie looked up and said, "that's what Rollie always told me, how everything was going to be fine well it's not so fine is it." Then Angie got up and walked away only to return for she could not leave her best friend's side not while he was hurt.
Three minutes after the explosion the ambulance arrived at the scene. The medics asked Mira about the condition of their patient and Mira said, "His name is Rollie Tyler, and his injuries consist of a head injury, possible broken ribs, a dislocated or broken shoulder left side, and a piece of shrapnel of some kind in his right leg. Beyond that I don't know."
While the medics were prepping Rollie to be moved, Lucinda came up to Angie and Mira, she had tears in her eyes as the three of them stood and watched the medics placed Rollie on a backboard and placed a neck brace on him.
Mira looked over at Angie and noticed a slight quiver to her lower lip at that point Mira touch Angie's shoulder, and she started to cry. Mira and Lucinda both put their arms around Angie to comfort her. Angie still sobbing pitifully said, "What am I going to do without him?"
Mira at that point turned her around to face her and she said, "Rollie's not going to die. He's far too stubborn to do that and you know it. The road right now is going to be long and hard but we will prevail, is that understood."
Angie still with a trembling lower lip said wimpily, "Understood." She turned back to where the medics were loading Rollie into the ambulance, " I'm going with him to the hospital we can't do today's shoot without him anyway."
With all this going on Francis had decided to stay back with Jeffery so he wouldn't be alone.
"Jeffery, hi. I'm Francis, a friend of Rollie's. Rollie's going to be alright. He's pretty tough." Francis said to Jeff.
"I hope so, the movies wouldn't be the same without him, he's the best." Jeff said to the detective beside him with a slight quiver to his voice.
As the ambulance drove away Angie, Lucinda, and Mira came over to Francis and Jeff and told them that they were going to the hospital.
Jeff and Francis said together, "I'm going, too." They looked at each other and then Francis said "I'll get the van and let's go."
At the hospital they all waited together in the waiting room outside the trauma center. The waiting was unbearable do to the injuries their friend had suffered.
After four hours, the doctor in charge of Rollie's case came out to talk to them.
"Hi I'm Doctor Michael Masterson, I'm in charge of Rollie's case." Said Dr. Masterson to the group waiting. "I have done a full exam of Mr. Tyler and I found three broken ribs, a nasty concussion, a dislocated left shoulder, and at this time we're prepping him for surgery to remove the piece of shrapnel from his leg." He looked solemnly at the group before him and he continued, "He also has first and second degree burns on his face and hands, we also must prepare for the possibility that he will not see again, he suffered flash burns to his Retinas. They may heal in time but then again they might not. I'm sorry." Then the doctor turned and went back into the trauma center.
"I don't believe him. How could Rollie be blind?" Angie said crying to Mira who was sitting next to her.
"Hey, Ange, Dr. Masterson said it's possible that he could be blind not that he is blind. I have heard of cases of flash blindness can start out blind and regain their sight later." Mira said to Angie with a determined look in her eyes.
Two hours later, Dr. Masterson came out to the waiting room again and said, "The surgery was a success and now it's up to Rollie to wake up."
Can I see him, please." Angie asked quietly.
"Well, he is in the recovery room and we don't usually allow visitors in there." Dr. Masterson said to Angie, but after seeing the pain in her eyes, "I think I'll make an exception today on that rule."
"Thank you, Doctor." Angie said gratefully.
Angie and Dr. Masterson went to the recovery room.
Dr. Masterson warned her that Rollie looked worse then he really was. When Angie finally saw him she realized that she wasn't prepared for what she saw.
Rollie was lying on a hospital bed with three IV's and an oxygen tube running under his nose, and his head was bandaged. The burns on his face and left hand were blistered and looked really bad.
Angie walked over to the right side of the bed and held his uninjured hand and said quietly, " hey, Rol, it's me, Angie, I just want you to know that I love you, and there are at least ten people in the waiting room who also love you." Angie started to cry. "Sorry, Rol, I seem to be getting all mushy, so I'm going to go now and I'll be back later, okay." She let go of his hand and walked from the room.
Rollie even though he was unconscious, responded to Angie. His mind was very active as he said, "Hey, Ange, I'll go with you to the waiting room, I'm not going to stay here. By the way what are they waiting for?" As he heard her footsteps going away from him, he said, "Hey, wait, Ange don't leave me behind."
A new, but familiar voice answered him; "You can't go with her, my dear sweet, Rollie."
"Mum?" Asked a confused Rollie, "What in the bloody hell is this? How can I be talking to you, your gone?"
"Yes, sweetie, I'm gone, but I'm still always with you no matter what happens." The voice of his mother said to him.
"What happened to me?" Rollie asked, "I remember asking Angie to squirt me the picture from camera two and then a bright flash and now this. Am I having delusions of granger or what?"
"Leo, maybe you should answer this one." Rollie's mother said.
"Hey, Rollie, here's the story. That bright flash was an explosion. Someone planted a real bomb on the set and tried to kill you." The voice of Leo stated to Rollie.
"I've got another question." Rollie said to his friend.
"Why can't I see either of you? Rollie asked his mother and Leo.
Then a new voice chimed in, "Rollie, my friend, you are in a place between life and death. You can hear those that are living and those who have passed on."
"Manny, is that you?" Asked Rollie totally surprised to hear Manny's voice.
"Yes, Rol, it's me. How's my baby girl doing?" Asked Manny, "I wish I could talk to her."
"Angie's doing great and I don't know what I'd do if she wasn't there." Rollie commented to Angie's father.
"Yeah, that girl's something else isn't she, Rol, I'm surprised you haven't married her." Commented the voice of yet another old friend.
"Rick, I just don't believe all this is this real or is it a dream?" Asked Rollie still confused as hell.
When Angie returned to the waiting room, Capt. Van Duran was there and he had some questions to ask, "Hey, Angie how is he?"
Angie walked over to the group, she had a haunting look in her eyes and she said. "He's still unconscious and he looks worse than he is, but I'm so scared for him. This track is going to be long and hard."
Angie walked over to where Jeff sat and said, "Hey, Jeff are you, okay?"
"I don't know, I think I'm in some kind of shock or something, because this just doesn't seem real, you know." Commented Jeff to Angie as tears welled up in his eyes.
"Yes, I do know and the shock is real and all we can do is pray for him." Said Angie with a devastated look on her face.
Finally Capt. Van Duran walked over and he said, "Angie, I'm sorry but I have some questions that need answering."
"Okay, Capt. Van Duran." Then she turned back to Jeff and gave him a big hug and said, "Rollie's going to be just fine, you'll see."
"Thanks, Angie I hope your right." Jeff said quietly.
"Is there any chance that this could have been an accident?" Asked Van Duran to Angie.
"No, there's no way this could have been an accident, even though explosives do make me nervous." Angie told Van Duran.
"How can you be so sure it wasn't an accident?" Van Duran asked Angie.
"Because the material we use doesn't leave shrapnel, like this one did and we use low powder explosives to protect the cast and crew from injury." Commented Angie in a matter of fact tone in her voice, "and Rollie's too good at his job to let a thing of this importance slide."
"Okay, Angie, is there anything else that you or anyone else notice?" Capt. Van Duran asked everyone in the room.
"I think I did see something on the rooftop that camera two picked up." Jeff said to Capt. Van Duran, "but I'm not one hundred percent sure though. I think we should look at the tapes."
"That's a great idea. The cameras were running the whole time and have probably taped the person or persons who did this." Angie said excitedly.
At that time Dr. Masterson came back out to the waiting room and said, "Mr. Tyler is resting comfortably now and will be moved to ICU in a few hours, so why don't you all go home and we'll call you if there are any changes in his condition."
Angie looked at Dr. Masterson and said. "Jeff and I will be at the shop if you need to reach us."
Jeff was excited about helping find the people who hurt Rollie and he said. "Okay, partner, let's see if we can find this culprit that hurt Rollie."
Angie looked at him; surprised by what he said then she smiled and said, "Okay, partner." As they walked to the door with the others right behind them.
"Hey, keep me posted if you find anything." Said Capt. Van Duran.
"We will," answered Jeff.
Angie, Jeff, Jimmy, and Lucinda piled into the van.
Angie had noticed how quiet Lucinda was and she said, "Hey, Luc, he's going to be fine."
"I know, he will, but to see him so helpless, it hurts, you know." Lucinda stated with a hollow look in her eyes. "Why would anyone want to hurt Rollie like this.
"I don't know, Luc, but we'll find out." Said Jimmy to Lucinda as he hugged her.
"Hey, where do you two want to go?" Asked Angie to Lucinda and Jimmy.
"I guess we'd better go back to the set and you need to stop there anyway to get thoughs tapes." Jimmy stated to Angie.
"Okay," said Angie.
The trip to the set was only three blocks and when they arrived the rest of the cast and crew was still there waiting for them.
"How is Rollie, is he okay?" The other members of the cast and crew asked in unison.
"Rollie is going to be fine, but it's going to be a long hard road ahead." Stated Angie to the cast and crew, "We also think foul play was involved in the accident, so if anyone remembers anything out of the ordinary, please let us know."
After getting the tapes Angie and Jeff headed for the workshop, as Angie rounded the corner into the alley she noticed an old Caddy convertible sitting outside.
"Oh, no," Angie said quietly, "We've got trouble."
"Why do you say that, Ange?" Jeff asked confused.
"Where there's Dingo, there's trouble," Angie stated to Jeff.
"Who's Dingo," Jeff asked Angie.
"Dingo, is Rollie's father. The last time we saw him, he was trying to con Rollie into selling Bluey," said Angie to Jeff.
As they stopped outside the door of the shop, Dingo came out and said exasperatingly, "I've been trying to reach you two all day from Sammy and Lupi's, where have you been?"
"Dingo, we have to talk." Angie told Dingo, "but first, will you help me get Jeff out of the van."
"Sure, who's Jeff?" Dingo asked Angie, "and where's Rollie, Ange?"
"I will answer all your questions when we have Jeff and some video tapes inside." Angie said to Dingo.
When they had Jeff and the videotapes inside, Angie set up the video digitizer and told Jeff to get started on the tapes while she talked to Dingo.
Okay, Boss," Jeff said to Angie and then he set to work.
"Dingo, let's go outside and talk, I need some air." Angie said sadly to Dingo.
As they stepped outside Dingo asked, "Angie, what's wrong I've never seen you this way, before?"
"Dingo, it's Rollie," Angie said her lower lip trembling and tears started to fall. "He was badly hurt in an explosion this morning."
"How did this happen? How could you let this happen? Why my son?" Dingo yelled out.
Angie moved in to hold the crying man and he let her, for she knew that he wanted someone to blame, but he didn't mean what he said. Quietly, Angie told Dingo what happened and about the injuries Rollie suffered in the explosion.
"Which hospital is Rollie in?" Asked Dingo with tears in his eyes.
"He's at St. Vincent's, the doctor in charge of his case is Michael Masterson, but Rollie's in recovery right now and no visitors are allowed. I will be going back to the hospital at about 7:00PM." Angie said to Dingo.
"Okay, I'll wait 'til then." Dingo said whimpering.
"Well, then let's go back in and see if, Jeff found anything on those tapes." Angie remarked to Dingo.
"What's he looking for anyway?" Asked Dingo.
"He's looking for anything that doesn't belong." Angie said to Dingo.
"Jeff, have you found anything yet?" Angie asked as she and Dingo came back in from outside.
"I'm not sure, but look at this from camera two, the rooftop across the alley," Jeff said excitedly.
Angie and Dingo walked over to the workstation.
"It looks like someone was on the rooftop at the time of the explosion," Dingo said calmly.
"That's just it, Mr. Tyler, nobody was supposed to be on that roof until filmtime," Jeff stated a matter of factly.
"Well, then I think we should get a picture of this person and see if we can get a name." Said Angie to both Jeff and Dingo.
Angie touched the screen when a good frame came up of the man on the rooftop. She brought it closer, then touched the enhance icon on the board, then she faxed the picture to Midtown South, and Mira and Francis.
"There," Angie said to them. "Now we wait and see what kind of file they have on him."
Jeff yawned and said to them, "I'm tired, I really think I should be taken home."
"Alright, Jeff and thank you, for all the work you've done." Angie said to Jeff, then she turned to Dingo, "Will, you help me get Jeff into the van, then when we have dropped Jeff off at home, We'll go, see Rollie, okay."
"Sound like a deal to me. Angie I'm sorry I yelled at you earlier, I was upset." Dingo said apologetically.
"I know, Dingo, don't worry about it. We have to concentrate on Rollie, now," Said Angie sympathetically.
Part Three
After Angie and Dingo dropped off Jeff they went to the hospital to see Rollie. When they arrived they found out that Rollie had been moved to ICU and could have visitors.
When they came into the room, Angie noticed that Rollie looked better, he was down to one IV but he still had the oxygen tube.
When Dingo saw Rollie the tears started to fall and he kept thinking, 'it should be me lying here not Rollie.'
Angie noticed that Dingo was eating himself up over this and said, "Dingo, it's not your fault this happened."
"It is my fault, I shouldn't have left him alone so much when he was young," cried Dingo to Angie as he moved over to Rollie's bedside.
"I'm sorry Rollie I was not a very good father to you and I hope to make that up to you," Dingo said to Rollie, who was still unconscious.
"Hey, dad your not a bad father, I just have a different way of life compared to you," Rollie wanted to say to his father but couldn't.
"Mum, how can I get him to understand that I love him just the way he is?" Rollie asked his mother.
"Rollie, he knows you love him." Rollie's mother told him, "he's just feeling guilty about you accident."
"You mean to tell me your father is still roaming the countryside, I thought he would have been locked up by now," Rick told Rollie with a laugh to his voice.
"Hey, Leo, remember when we put Nick the bookie out of business," Rollie laughed.
"Yeah, we couldn't have done it without, Dingo," Leo laughed at the memory.
"Leo, remember the fight between Angie and Lucinda, at Nick's it was the perfect diversion if I could have planned it myself." Rollie laughed at the memory.
"True, and I've seen your plans work and even the ones that didn't, Leo said to Rollie.
"Manny, this guy comes up with the most idiotic stuff that actually works, Leo said to Manny.
"That's why I left the business to him and Angie," Manny told Leo.
"Manny, I do have to admit I love Angie like a sister and she has so much talent in the area of computer programming and special effects that I don't know what I'd do without her." Rollie said to Manny.
"Well, Rol, you know what I'd do in your situation," Rick said to Rollie.
"No, Rick, what would you do if you were me?" Rollie asked Rick with a laugh in his voice.
"Well, I'd take her off the market and marry her the second I woke up," Rick stated in a matter of fact tone to his voice.
"Rick, didn't you listen to what I said, I love Angie like a sister, Rollie stated a little exasperated by Rick.
"Mum, help me out here I think I'm talking to a brick wall," Rollie said to his mother.
"Rollie, I don't think I can help you with Rick or any other decisions you will be facing in the next few days or even months." Rollie's mother said to him in a light tone of voice.
"Hey, Rol, always remember we love you and we are always watching over you and Angie, okay, just remember that." Leo said to Rollie in a very serious voice.
"I'll remember, Leo and I will always love you guys, too. We all miss all of you, too." Rollie said to his friends and his mother.
"Rollie, you're getting, too mushy for my taste," Rick said to Rollie with a laugh, "yuck."
Dingo was very upset at the sight of Rollie that he had to walk out of the room for awhile, before he left to get some coffee he asked Angie if she wanted anything.
"Yeah, I'll take a coffee as well and a sandwich, I'm starving," said Angie as she remembered she hadn't eaten all day.
"Okay, I'll be back in awhile," Dingo said, but Angie knew he'd be about an hour or so.
Dingo wondered around the hospital, when he finally came across the chapel and went inside.
Noone was in the chapel so he prayed out loud, "oh, lord forgive my sins and don't take my Rollie, he's all I have in this world and I don't think I could survive knowing that he was gone, too."
After a few minutes he cried out, "god, are you listening to me. Take me instead of my boy."
"He's always listening," said a voice behind him.
Dingo jumped, "I thought I was alone."
"No your never truly alone, he is always with you," the man told him.
"Then why did he let this happen to Rollie? Who are you, anyway?" Dingo asked the stranger.
"I'm Chaplain Donald Mcaffrey, I'm here to help you through this," the man said.
Donald Mcaffrey sat down next to Dingo and said, "I know it's hard to see a member of ones family in the hospital, but I know your son is strong and he will survive."
"Your right, it is hard because I rarely see my son and now, he needs me more than ever, and I don't know what to do." Dingo told Donald with tears streaming down his face.
"What is your name, sir? I would like to hear about your son, Rollie," Donald said to Dingo.
"Ah, I'm sorry I should have introduced myself, I'm Dingo Tyler and my son is Rollie Tyler." Dingo said proudly to Donald.
Rollie works as a special effects man for the movies. He's always making something or helping someone out of a fix including his old man." Dingo said, "He's funny, always the life of the party, and his energy is endless."
"He sounds like a wonderful man, I would like to get to know him," said Donald to Dingo.
" I love that boy with all my heart, I wish I could tell him," Dingo said distantly.
"I'm sure he knows, Dingo, and I'm sure he feels the same way," Donald said to Dingo.
They must have talked for about an hour when Dingo remembered, "ANGIE! I told her I was going for coffee and a sandwich, what time is it anyway?"
"It's eight O' clock, you'd better get back to them," the Chaplain said with a smile.
"Hey, thanks Donald, this really helped," Dingo stated gratefully.
"Don't mention it, it's my job to help where I can, bye Dingo, I'm sure we'll talk again sometime." Donald stated to a much less angry Dingo.
When Dingo arrived back at Rollie's room, he found Angie asleep in a chair with her head resting on the bed by Rollie's hand. Dingo knelt down beside Angie and touched her cheek. "Wake up, sweetie, common, wake up."
Angie opened her eyes and asked yawning. "Hi Dingo, what time is it?"
"It's 8:15PM and here's your coffee and a sandwich." Dingo said with a smile.
"Thanks, Dingo, what happened to you?" Angie asked, "when you left, you were so angry about everything, and now you're so calm."
"I had a chat with the hospital Chaplain, that really helped," said Dingo.
"Oh, good, so you met Chaplain Donald Mcaffrey, I'm glad," Angie said to Dingo.
"You know him?" Asked Dingo.
"He stopped in here just after you left and introduced himself, we talked for a few minutes, then he left." She told him.
Just then an announcement came over the hospital intercom system. 'Visiting hours are now over.'
"I guess we'd better go Dingo." She told him, then turned to Rollie, "Hey, Rol, we'll see you tomorrow." Then she bent and kissed him on the forehead.
"Rollie, I love you, son, and I'll be here for you." Dingo said to Rollie, then he caressed his son's cheek, and left.
The next morning Dingo woke up at the loft, to find Angie busy working on something. "What the bloody hell are you doing here so early for?" Asked Dingo.
"Jimmy Chu, needed some shot packs made up and I won't be able to go to the hospital with you this morning, but I will be there this afternoon," explained Angie.
"Okay, Ange, be careful over at the set," Dingo said wearily.
"I will, I'm taking Jeff with me," Angie said to him, "See yea, later, Dingo." She said as she walked out the door.
It was 8:30AM, Thursday morning when Dingo arrived at the hospital. He went straight to Rollie's room, walked in and got an eye full. "What in the bloody hell is that on my son's butt?" Asked Dingo loudly.
"It's a puppy, why?" The nurse asked.
"I never thought that I would see a tattoo on him, least of all a puppy tattoo," Dingo said laughing.
"It surprised the hell out of me, too," the nurse said with a smile.
"It's awfully cute, isn't it?" Dingo asked the nurse.
"Yes, it most certainly is." The nurse told him.
While the nurse finished Rollie's bedbath, Dingo left to get some coffee. Smiling to himself as he thought about Rollie's newly acquired friend and almost laughed out loud.
When Dingo returned to Rollie's room the nurse was gone and his son looked so helpless. That it bothered him.
"May I come in?" A voice asked.
Dingo looked up and saw a pretty redhead standing in the doorway, "Ah...hmm... Yeah, come in, please. Are you a friend of Rollie's?" Asked Dingo.
"Yes, I'm Rebecca Ostlund from the Make-A-Wish Foundation," she told Dingo. "I heard about what happened and I want to be of help, if I can."
"Ah, I think your just being here will do wonders for him and us." Dingo told her, putting on his most winning smile, "thank you."
"I'm just glad to be of service after all the embarrassment I caused Rollie," Rebecca told Dingo.
"Embarrassment?" Dingo asked her with a lopsided grin.
"Yes, at his birthday party, he got so drunk he passed out and I drew a temporary tattoo on his butt of a puppy," Rebecca told Dingo laughing, "it's a weakness of mine."
"I saw it this morning when I walked in on a nurse giving him a bedbath." He said laughing, "I thought it was awfully cute, but I never thought Rollie would do that voluntarily."
"He didn't," she said, "Hey, where's Angie?"
"She was called into work today, something about shot packs," he told Rebecca. "I think, Jeff and her are doing it. That Jeff is quite a boy."
"Yes, that he is," Rebecca said thoughtfully, "and he just loves Rollie, but I think he has a crush on Angie."
"Angie's a lovely girl and I wish Rollie would stop being so stubborn and marry her." Dingo told Rebecca, while looking at his son sternly.
"What is it with people today, they go from butt puppy's to marriage in one conversation," whined Rollie.
"Butt Puppy's?" Leo, Manny, and Rick asked together.
"Oh, no, I'm not going into that," Rollie stated firmly, "that was embarrassing enough the first time around."
"Uh, Hmm," was all his mother had to say.
"Okay, so I got drunk at my birthday party and passed-out, when I woke up the next morning I had a puppy on my ass, okay." Rollie stated exasperatedly.
"Good job, Rol, and I supposed Angie got to see this butt puppy, too, didn't she?" Rick asked Rollie in a snotty voice.
"Yes, and Luce, Mira, and Francis." Rollie stated sounding like a whipped dog.
"Hey, how's Francis, anyway?" Leo asked Rollie.
"He's doing well, Leo, but he misses you more than ever as the holidays come nearer," Rollie said concerned, "and Mira, well, we didn't get off on the right foot, but we've warmed up to each other."
"Wasn't Mira, in the IA department?" Asked Leo.
"Yes, she was, then after the investigation of your death, she transferred to Midtown South as a detective," explained Rollie.
Three days after trying to kill Rollie Tyler, Alex Martell, heard on the news the his condition has improved, though he is still unconscious.
"NO, HE CAN NOT SURVIVE," screamed Alex Martell as he stormed out of his motel room.
It was about 5:00PM on Saturday October 17,1998. Rollie is still unconscious and nobody knows why.
"There has got to be an explanation to why he's still unconscious," Dr. Masterson stated to a colleague of his.
"You've done all the scans the world has available and they all show normal," his colleague told him.
"I know, and that why this is so frustrating. I guess, all we can do now is wait," said Dr. Masterson.
Up in Rollie's room a stranger entered, he walked over to the bed and starred at Rollie, then he said, "well, Mr. Tyler, I think it's time to end all this."
Rollie had never heard this voice before; he wanted to know who was speaking to him.
"Oh, I'm sure you would like to know who killed you, so I'll introduce myself, I'm Alex Martell, your killer." The stranger said, "and I'm going to use insulin to finish you."
Just as Alex Martell inserted the needle of the hypodermic syringe into Rollie's arm the door opened and Rollie could hear Angie and Mira talking, then he heard three shots fired, and Mira shouting for a doctor.
Rollie wanted to know what happened, he heard Mira tell a doctor, "she's been shot."
Rollie's mind screamed, "ANGIE, NO!
